2008 Mazdaspeed 3
Hello I was wondering if the stock 08 mazdaspeed 3 bpv had any time of restrictors to quiet the bpv. My dad said his cummins had one that was removable but those are two separate vehicles. Thanks, josh

The bpv does not have any sound restrictor. But the intake does! The stock intake box is highly restrictive to air flow and is designed to try to keep you from hearing any intake sound, including the release of the bpv. Put an aftermarket SRI or CAI intake on the car, and I guarantee you that you will hear that valve release. It will be very noticable.

i recently just put a cobb sri on it and it does improve the sound of the turbo wind for sure. i was just wondering if there was a cheaper way to get a little more sound instead of buying a aftermarket bov.

What you should be hearing is the whoosh of the BPV releasing boost when you shift. You really can't or shouldn't be hearing the turbo itself. You will hear the induction sound of air being pulled in through the unrestricted filter.

If you want to hear more sound I suggest you roll down your driver side window, put the palm of your hand under your armpit, flap your arm vigorously and announce your presence to your ricer buddies with armpit farts.

With practice you could probably time it to match the BPV release.

The "look at me" sound you are seeking is for 12 year old insecure boys.

Sorry for being tough. You have just about the most elegantly designed and best performing BPV that money can buy and you want to replace it with something that farts louder or let's you hear the turbo "better"?

If you are still seeking more sound after an sri install you wont get it unless you go vta but at that point the car runs retarded so dont do that. An aftermarket bpv really isnt much louder, just a different sound really. I have a forge and I dont think it is louder, just more of a distinct sound is all.

i dont want something that farts, im simply asking the community what they have done to get a better sound. and yes you are correct about the above statement. my apologies for not being more descriptive, and thank you for your response to the post.

There is an entire "sticky" threads on BPV/BOV:

We do have a search function on the board. It is useful and prevents us from having to answer the same questions over and over. Honestly, it is a bit difficult to use, but it can be accessed easily through Google search. Just type "mazdas247" (without the quotes) right before your search string, and it should take you to this board and every post regarding the search terms you have selected.

Give it a try if you have more questions, and if you can't find the answer after searching, hit us up.

"Better" sound is sort of like asking guys if they prefer blondes, brunettes, or redheads, slim girls, larger girls, big or smaller breasts, tall or short, etc. You'll get a lot of different opinions and none of them will be wrong because it's a matter of personal taste, and none of the answers are likely to be that helpful.

If better means louder, I can't help you. Loud = cop magnet. Drive around town with attention getting sounds and cops will follow. You get their attention too. Especially their attention. They will then write you up for going 5 mph over the limit, just to make a point, because they assume you are driving fast under other conditions and assume that the car is heavily modded for racing. I like mods that actually make real power and do not attract attention. Then I can go fast (carefully) and not be on a list of the local cops to "watch out for this one." But that's just me.

Enjoy your pocket rocket. These are cool cars.

What I did when I was in the market for a new bpv was I looked on Youtube for sound clips so I knew what I liked. I had a cheap fake ebay greddy bov at first but it leaked. I went back to stock for a little bit but still wanted something different so I went with forge. Im happy where im at, tho most of the time I hear a lot of sucking in from the sri/tip and I have to give it a decent amount of boost to get the little ping sound. I still have that inner ricer in myself so thats why I wanted a change but still something that will function good.
