07 Sport GT - TPMS ?

I just picked up a 2007 Sport GT and am loving it for commuting compared with my MSP, though I do miss the turbo!

I recently had a flat and so I put the spare tire on to get the puncture repaired. I probably drove the car 2 km or so to the shop with the spare and I did not see the TPMS sensor light flashing. I'm trying to figure out if my car is equipped with TPMS or not, but according to the manual using the spare tire will cause the warning to flash. I've seen others post about having TPMS with an 07 GT, but I'm not sure if it's standard on that trim. Google is turning up dry.

I am about to buy a set of steelies and winter tires and wanted to make sure I don't need a second set of TPMS sensors to go with them.

Im pretty sure it does. You dont really need the second set of TPMS though for winter wheels. You just have to deal the with the light. Some people just place a small piece of electrical tape over it so they dont see it.

As long as you regularly check the tire pressure (say, every time you fill up the gas tank) you should be OK not having TPMS. And anyway, the system's only going to alert you to a slow leak that's been leaking for a while, not necessarily to imminent catastrophic failure (although, given the right circumstances, I suppose that's possible).

As for the TPMS MIL, I didn't bother with the tape. In fact I use the light to remind me that I'm driving on my winter tires in winter so I should take it a bit easier on the curves. :D (Yeah.. not like I couldn't just look out the freakin' window to see that... (hand))

I have an 07 S Hatchback and it has the TPMS stock. I had the same concerns before I put my snow tires on last year, I just got steel wheels and skipped the tpms. After driving a few miles with the tpms off of the car the light will come on. The car will not handle any differently. The anti-lock brakes and the traction control still work. I put my alloys back on last spring and drove a few blocks and the light turns off. Also if you want to know if you have tpms look at the stem coming out of the rim, if it is silver and fat where the stem comes out of the rim then gets smaller like a normal stem, then you have tpms, the fat part would be the outside of the tpms.

The "fat part" on the outside is the part of the valve stem assembly that holds the sensor housing to the interior of wheel rim.

Here's a pic of a sensor assembly that's identical (or at least similar) to the OEM sensors (made by Siemens):

Here's an exploded-view pic of a Beru brand sensor of similar construction:

Note that the wheel rim goes between points C and D.

If your TPMS light did not go off when you put the spare on, odds are you don't have it...I have an '09 3 GT and I don't have TPMS...I believe it's an add-on accessory which means any Mazda can have it. But I am not sure on that. Either way, you won't have problems. Just a tacky light flashing at you
