KBrain, congrats on your 500th post........

Sounds like something that could be covered under your auto insurance.

mazdadude, I just finished talking with my insurance company and it is covered. After getting back to work several of my coworkers stated the same thing, this should be covered under your insurance. I called them today and they're going out in the next couple of days to look at the car but told me from everything I've told them it was covered, I'll let you if anything changes..........

They even told me I can have a rental; I told them I have other auto's, I'm not one for trying to take advantage of the situation............

Since the insurance company got involved they made sure everything was changed out that could have been damaged by the water and the engine blowing...... total cost to replace everything is 2689.00 (Engine, electrical components, 02 sensor, catalytic converter, etc.....). Should be ready sometime next week............

KBrian........ this sure helped soften the blow......... I'm sure thankful for the small blessings..............

WOW, what a great story. Let us know how it ends, as in how she runs when it's all said and done.

Well, picked the car up yesterday (Sat 21 Aug) after several weeks in for the engine replacement; she seems to be running very well. Drove around Va Beach some Sat and some today (Sun) to see how things were running. I'm happy to say the zip is there and the engine is running very smooth. I can still smell what seems like the burnt smoke in the car, seems a little strange but overall I've very pleased with everything. I'm driving up to DC tomorrow and I'm taking the "5"....... I'll come back with an update later tomorrow.

One thing I have to say is the insurance company claims adjuster made several trips to the repair shop to make sure the car was right....... one ocassion the repair shop called me to come pick up the car, I called the claims dept and they told me not to pick up the car until I heard from the adjuster....... he told me the "Check Engine" light was still on, the timing on the engine wasn't quite right and told me he would call me back and tell me when to pick it up............

That is great to hear! (cabpatch)

Maybe a good idea to replace the cabin filter to help get rid of a little bit of smoke smell? Or it could just be residue burning off the new engine parts.

DF, it seems to me that your insurance company has gone above and beyond the call of duty and might warrant a mention on this forum.

What insurance company was this? I have always used State Farm and they have been great but yours seems to have gone way above and beyond.

Mods; if it's against the forum policies to post this info please delete this section of my post: Geico is my auto insurance company.

Update on the car and engine...... I've been driving it for several weeks now and it's been back to the shop twice; both times have been for adjustments seemed the timing was a little off both times and I've noticed the gas mileage isn't as good as it was before the change....

1st time back to the shop was to adjust the timing related to the gears changing; car was going a little long in each gear; required reprogramming the computer to adjust the mph where the car knows to change the gears related to the power being applied to the as pedal (that's at least the way I understood it)

2nd time back to the shop was for them to check everything; no problems since, but I'm keeping an eye on things.......... gas mileage seems to be getting better, guess the car is relearning how much gas it needs to use

I'll keep you guys updated on how things are going..............and thanks for all the good thoughts........

Update: Well, the car spent the last 5 days in the shop; Check Engine light came back on and the code was P2106 to indicate ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) system malfunction has occurred; so they're replacing the "ETC" and the Throttle body along with several other things. The car was ready yesteday (Friday) but I was out of town until late so I"m picking it up today. I'll let you guys know how she's doing after I pick her up later today. Insurance is still taking care of things which is awesome, can't say enough good things about my claims adjuster.

Hopefully this is the final trip to the repair shop.

Had the car back since Saturday and she's running real nice; gas mileage and peep(zoom) are both back....... very happy with everything...... hopefully I'll get another 100,000 miles before I have any other problems.........
