02 Mazda Protege ES
My OEM sunroof has started leaking. Part of it looks rusted and i dont think it seals up tight when closed any longer. Found this out after a rainy day and was left with a super damp roof inside. I am think of buying a used OEM replacement from a donor 2003 Protege 5. This should be ok right? Also, i have never installed/removed a sunroof but it looks like its just a staright bolt on by removing some screws from the top. Anyone replaced one? Any tips you have for me i shot myself in the foot and do this?

here's my tip: call up your dealer, tell them your vin number, and get the actual replacement part for your car. mazda made a few different part numbers for the replacement sunroof glass, and they are NOT interchangable between cars.

i have some rust on mine, and i bought a glass panel from a donor protege5 - not unlike what you want to do. panel looked like an exact replacement... until i got the old one out and noticed that the tabs were in different locations and the curvature was slightly off, too. there was no way the replacement panel was going on my car.

fyi, the shop manual tell you how to remove, replace, and get the alignment done once you get the replacement glass.

Ah man, thanks. I was about to make a $300 mistake then. I took pictures of my rusted sections, if i get the replacement glass, would it come that metal part (see pics below) that it is mounted on that glides back and forth? I do not know if the glass is separate from the actual metal moving piece. Also, the shop manual that you are talking about, is it the one on the mazdamotorsports.com website? Thats the only manuals i have, thats why. Thanks for you're help.

yeah, there are four bolts that hold the glass panel to the slider mechanism. you can see the bolts by opening the sunshield and looking up to the sides. take those out, and the glass panel will pop out the top. that piece is the glass, with the metal surround.

Oh ok, so the metal surround and the glass are one piece, correct?
