2016 CX-5 Rear hatch will not lock

Pulled every fuse, nothing is out. Replaced the actuator, still not working.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

From what I can find, Mazda says to hold the hatch close button down for 7 seconds. Of course you have to do this while not letting the thing close. You should hear three beeps to indicate it's done. It also mentions doing it with the remote

When exiting the car and locking it with door button or remote, all 4 doors lock…but the hatch does not lock. This does not have a powered hatch, it is manually operated.

Are you sure it's not Locking? Try opening it when the fob is out of range. If you have the fob on you it will open as soon as you press the latch. I don't believe there's a lock/unlock like the doors. It's always locked until the fob comes in range.

From what I'm understanding, the only way to unlock/lock the manual liftgate is with the fob or the door button and that is only because the fob unlocks all doors. The door lock controls it. There is no "hey, the fob is nearby, you can open me now" capability

All great info. thanks so much.

I have to admit, it's my daughters car, I don't use it on a regular basis. Everything else does work on the tailgate.

I will try the "out of range remote" She told me it never locks.

So if I understand, even if the car is locked and you approach with a remote, you can open the hatch with the button onn the hatch and the doors remain locked?

Yes, that's how it works on my CX. All doors locked, including the hatch. I walk up to the car with the fob in my pocket and I press the action button on the hatch; the hatch unlocks only.

Her "Never locks" experience might well just mean that IF carrying the keyfob then the liftgate allows entry, never appearing to lock the liftgate.

My 2016.5 GT works that way.

When I leave the car carrying my keyfob, I lock/alarm the vehicle. (Or the proximity feature locks/alarms the car as I walk away.)

If I return to the liftgate and want to enter, if I'm carrying the keyfob then I just push the liftgate lever to open it. Have to have the keyfob with me, to do so.

Easy enough to test the variations. Try it while the car's running and parked. Then try it while the car's off and parked. Driver's door open vs closed. While carrying the keyfob, when having left the keyfob on the car's front console, while not having the keyfob nearby at all.

LOL That's exactly the way it works ! There's an LF antenna on the base of the liftgate for exactly this function.

No, that's not how it works.

If the system did work the way you suggest then there would be no need to press an Action Button to open anything, you'd just reach for the door handle, and it would be unlocked. It doesn't work that way at all since a button HAS to be pressed, either on the fob or on the car.

Yes. It also works this way on my MX-5. If you have the remote with you, it will let you push the button near the license plate to pop the trunk. No remote, no access.

Depends if the OP has the advanced intelligent key or not as they operate differently. I don't have the advanced intelligent key so even if I have the fob with me, I still have to unlock the doors first. Just trying not to confuse the poor devil!

In my 16 (which I'm sure doesn't have the AIK) when I lock all the doors and go to the rear as long as I have the fob in my pocket I can open the hatch. No need to unlock the four doors. Now on my 19 (which probably has the AIK) I need to unlock all the doors first for the hatch to open. It's confusing.
Don't remember seeing any reference to year on the OP's posts.
