Why did Mazda de-content the Sport Manual?

Hello all, I am in the market for a new car and have been considering the 2014 Mazda 6. I require a manual transmission, so this of course limits me to Sport and Touring models. I was looking online the other day and noticed that the Sport manual was de-contented quite significantly, as the took out the color display and all of the wireless connectivity. Does anyone have the slightest idea as to why Mazda did this? I can't figure it out! It would be nice to be able to get a manual and all the connectivity without having to go with the almost $24,000 Touring model!

There is no considerable and profitable market demand for a fully packaged manual transmission Mazda6. I'm sure they wouldn't mind bringing it here if it was profitable to them. You can thank 'MERICA for that as other continents get the manual in their higher equipped cars.

I understand the rationale behind not having a fully loaded 6 in a stick for sale in the states, which is available in other countries (including Canada), but what I am referring to here is the specific de-contenting of the base model (Sport) when equipped with the stick. You can still get a Touring with the manual and get all the connectivity goodies that are stripped from the Sport manual. I've never seen anything like it before.

Sadly Mazda has been doing this for the last couple of years across pretty much there ENTIRE line. They did the same thing with the CX5 if you wanted a manual. You cant even get a color option if you want a stick. I think its a horrible idea.

I'm just glad I could get a manual, and I actually prefer the de-contented version for the following reasons:

  • I've had leather, tired of the upkeep.
  • Nav is just going to be outdated quickly. Google maps on my phone works well.
  • I know how to regulate my speed, so radar cruise is a toy I'd probably never use.
  • The price is amazing!
I did add exactly what I did want with port installed options, so I still get fogs and the lip spoiler, without having to purchase a package I don't want. The Reflex Blue is my favorite color on a car as well, so I'm not going to miss the tech since I'll be too busy enjoying the drive!

mazda builds their cars the way they do for a reason: that's what people are buying. mazda3 will come with all those goodies on the manual version, because they know they will sell. but the market for the mazda6 with those features just isn't there.

I would think that their main motivation for having a stripped down manual Sport is so that they can advertise a "starting at" price that is low. From a consumer's point of view, it allows those that can't afford all the bells and whistles a chance to own what appears to be a luxury model.
