Turbo maybe?

I bought my msp two months ago, and the owner said there was a new clutch and a new turbo with only 2000 miles on it. Don't get me wrong, this car books it. I don't know a lot about cars, but I am experiencing this:
When I start the car and let it warm up, I take off when the idle goes down to about 1400 rpm. In other words, motor still pretty cold. When I drive and the motor is cold, it's screamin' fast, but once i've been driving for a while and the motor's fully warmed up, the car is slow as s***. The turbo takes longer to kick in and usually I have to stomp on it. It's still pretty fast, but not nearly like it is when it's cold. Is this just how turbos are? From what I can see, it's a calloway turbo and weapon r pipes. I can hear it spooling, and it still blows off with the BOV, but it's like it's a different car entirely. Also I notice that the exhaust is much louder when I stomp on it and it's already warm versus when it's cold. Like crazy loud and almost a hollow sound.. I have no idea what's wrong and no idea how to work on it! I'm a pretty fast learner but don't know anything about these cars..

Many thanks,
Craig

Well when I bought the car I was freaking out because I was getting 12 mpg. I took it to a msp mechanic to check it out and he told me that I do have a split second piggyback that's causing my fuel trim to be 23%. I replaced my k&n filter, and replaced my plugs, and brought it back up to 17-18, but I don't know the first thing about these tuning modules.. Could it be tuned improperly? And how would I fix that?

Not really sure what I'm looking at under the hood but here it all is:

lol i got that same turbo timer in the same spot. if you think theres a bad tune on your splitsecond im sure you can put a different map on it.

aha but how do I do that? I've never owned a turbo car before...my last car was a 91 accord, and before that a 86 b2000, so all this stuff is foreign to me..!

Do you have the R4 disk(SS afc) ? If not, get in touch with the company and have them send you a CD. This you can use to tune the car from your lap top. Or if there is a local shop that you trust that can tune take it to them.

Do I have to know what chip is in the car beforehand or does this software tell me what it is?

Your "chip" is the SS AFC piggyback unit. Get the R4 software and the Supermap from the SS AFC sticky and see if the new map helps.

And you don't have a Callaway turbo, it's the stock Garrett GT2554R, Callaway just made the stock manifold.

Okay so I'm a total newb with this stuff... How do I plug my laptop into the car to use this software? I've looked at the split second sticky and it all looks very intimidating..! Is the supermap somewhere in the 101 pages?

plug it in using a USB to serial cable. You can get them at any office supply store. Everything you need is on the first page

Get a USB-Serial cable like Spiced MSP said, you can get a Dynex one from BBY or a bunch of other brands on eBay, just make sure you can download the driver for it. You'll also need Windows XP, I don't think it works on Vista or 7 but I may be wrong about that.

And the Supermap is on page 1, post 1. Download the zip, extract it, and install the R4 software. Plug in the AFC to your laptop with the USB-Serial cable and load the map. It's a little more involved than that, but that's the general idea behind it. It's not so bad..

So where can I find the afc? The msp tech never told me where it was, he just told me there was one..

the unit itself should be easy accessible for easy use of the serial port. Check the glovebox, anywhere around the passenger floor area since the ecu is on that side anyway. if you still can't find it, pull the carpet back and look for spliced wires coming off of the stock harness and see where they go.
