2003 mazda protege5
Hello everyone, Im new to the Forum and i need some help with the installation of a new engine in my 2003 P5. i looked at all the posts about installing an automatic engine in a manual protege5 and most of them say that the engines are the same except for the flywheel that need to be transferred from my old engine. i found a JDM engine online (Automatic) but the problem is that when i looked at the pictures of the engine, there was a black box on top of the intake manifold which i dont have in my current engine. i was wondering if thats a different version of the engine and whether it will fit in my P5. any help would be appreciated
this is a link for the picture of the engine:

That intake is different, (and desirable) but it will not prevent you from installing the engine on your car.

thanks for the reply, so you mean that its the same version of the engine, just the intake is different?

The whole engine is different it's an fsze it's a lot of hassle but it's worth it. I would recommend a regular USDm fsde unless you want a good bit more power and you can afford any issues you run into

You will need to take some parts from your old engine and swap over to the new one but it should bolt up.

As was said, there are engines all over in local wrecking yards, they are not rare by any means. It would also be cheaper than importing a hunk of metal from Japan.

well i looked for an engine in local wrecking yards but i couldn't find any. the ones that i found were in bad condition and had too many miles on them.
do you have an idea about which parts i have to swap from my old engine and do i have to get a new ECU?

Just get a regular fsde and save the hassle no Jdm junk

If you really want to do it you'll need to swap the crank pully If you want to stay obd2 you'll have to get an mp3 ecu and a piggy back and tune it or have someone tune it which you will need a wide band for you will also need to get a stage one or better clutch for the extra power and if it doesn't come with a header you will need to get an after market header stock won't cut it you will also want to look into a different exhaust. The list goes on its more hassle and money than it's worth to gain 40 hp

i thought that jdm engines are better than the USdm ones, anyways thanks for the help and i will try to look for a regular fs-de engine

They have a special intake manifold and high compression pistons and more aggressive cams . They are better just a big hassle

what kind of big hassle we talking about here? can you be more specific please. the engine has 40k on it and looks in perfect conditions!!

Just get a regular fsde it's eBay they can say it has 10000 miles if they want but there's no proof
