Mazda Protege5
Hello guys and Gals! i am sad to announce that my protege5 has been totaled, by yours trully! it was a sad sad day! The car was still drivable but not very well...

I purchased a new car and i am sad to say i did not stay in the Mazda family :(

I wanted to get a mazda3, but all i could afford was used, and the ones i saw had rust problems! i am not sure what the problem is with recent year Mazda models, but it seems like they are plagued by rust. I took great care of my protege, but it too had a lot of rust issues! Not cool!

So after thinking and debating i pulled a trigger on a 2004 BMW e46 (325i)

I love the car so far and it's hard to believe that it is indeed my car!
All in all i am happy although i do miss my protege...

Here are some pics of my new ride (they are really crappy but that's all i have for now) and of my old ride in all its former glorry

yeah my JDM tail lights are gonna be for sale. also some small odds and ends...

dude! (sad2) sad on two fronts....best to you and the bmw and don't be a stranger around here ok?

Congrats on the purchase. You need to drop by some of the meets. Who cares what your driving.

Any plans for the bimmer?

Thanks guys! i am very sad that i don't have a mazda. But it did not make sence to me to drop a lot of cash on a car that's gonna rust... I almost pulled a trigger on what seemed to be a pristine silver '05 Mazda3 with 24k miles. Once i brought it to my body shop they found a bunch of rust on it. Inside of every door was bubbling up. I mean come on! 24k miles!. Anyway i looked at a few other mazdas but they too had some rust...
we'll see how the bimmer holds up...

as you well know, we are in the rust belt! not as bad as canada and OH (for phen), but pretty close!(pissed)

sorry to hear you lost the protege5.

what i can't fully understand is how you could afford a BMW and not a mazda3? how much was the Bimmer?

the 04 325i is not that expensive depending on the miles. 2 years a bought a 330xi fully loaded with 50k for 17,500.

ok, so you can get a brand new mazda3 sport hatch for about $18k. maybe less after any incentives. hell, you can get a brand new 2.0l sedan for $15k!

Did he say he couldn't afford one?? I didn't read that?? rust was the main issue

Mark is absolutely correct. The main reason why i did not get a Mazda is cause it seems like a lot of the used Mazdas are plagued by rust. My budget was 13 grand tops, and unfortunately for me all mazdas i looked at had ether pretty bad rust that was hidden or had rust in the beginning stages on the inside of the doors and such.
My brothers 06 mazda6 has both rear fenders covered with rust! This is a serious problem...
I know we are in the rust belt, but i don't understand how a car that is not even 5 years old be rusty! i mean i see some Hondas Mazdas and Toyotas from early ninetys that have less rust! My 1994 Probe that i purchase in 2001 had no rust at all!

Anyway enough ranting :)

Guys and gals, i am really sorry to say but i really did not salvage a lot of mods from my car, since my insurance gave me two grand extra (not without some serious arm twisting) for all my mods. In my situation that was much more convenient than taking all the mods off and then selling them. The front end of the car was damaged so the fog lights and headlights got busted up. The only really nice thing that i took off my car and will have for sale were my JDM tail lights. i still have somewhat worn out mazdaspeed floor mats and some other small things that i need to find. so i will keep you posted!

I own a 2006 MS6 that has been my daily driver for the entire time I have owned it (Since 2006). I have no signs of rust and I believe it is because of my attempt at keeping it clean.

I think the rust issue you see is dependent on how people take care of their cars.
