hi, its time to change my summer tires and i was wondering what kind of tire would look better on stock 2002 p5 rims. In first i wanted to buy mazdaspeed protege rims but i dont have the money to buy those rims +low profile tires. So now, i know stock p5 tires are 195/50/16 but i would like a lower profile tire.Which one would look best, 40 or 45 of profile? I also want to drop the car with tein s tech. I know tire can make a big difference in the look so if you have any tire in mind that would look good, just twrite it.

thank you

I'd say stay stock. Any lower profile tire is gonna make you look even higher, even with a drop

If you keep the 16" wheels and run anything other than a 195/50 tire your speedometer will be off. A comparable 16" tire size is 215/45 but you really should run a wider wheel. But as mentioned, if you think low-profile tires are to expensice you're better off sticking with stock.

FWIW, I'm selling a set of MSP wheels with bald tires for $200+shipping. See my signature.

V= D/T for those of us that understand physics. Yes the velocity or speed will be a bit different (not noticeable however) varying the tire size (thus the distance travelled over a period of time) by a LITTLE as i plan on doing will not cause an increase or decrease in velocity...

it's safe to vary in size but make sure that it is proportional. the difference in the sidewall height on a 195/50 is not much different from that of a 205/45.

PS. not meant to call you out magnum I apologize :)

No apologies needed :D

Technically V=dX/dt, but let's not get into that. Check any wheel/tire size calculator and you'll see that 205/45 is a decent amount smaller than the stock ratio as 205/50 is larger. 215/45 is much closer than both and if you want to go up to 17" wheels 215/40 is almost an exact match. Not to call you out, but they are different and 205/45 will look a tad rediculous with the stock wheel gap.

i dont nderstand well what the first number means i think. I thought it was the width of the wheel. so 215/45 and 205/45 have different sidewall height?

Yes, they have a different height. 215 refers to the width of the tire in mm. The 45 refers to the sidewall height as a percentage of the width. So 45% of 205 is lower than 45% of 215.

but im planning to buy springs so would it still look bad?

EDIT: 205/45 would have a higer sdewall than 195/50...

haha yes it is a bit smaller although you know what I may take your advice and go with a 215 instead of the 205. It doesn't look tooooo bad up above though ;)
I'm not gonna have any rub issues with a 215 right? the speeds run a 215 on similar suspension if I'm correct...

Thanks mate. Not too shabby for 89k miles. Yup, definitly looking for a drop. I was thinking the eibach pros/tokico strut route others have had success with.

No, they don't... Even if you assume the first number is the exact width in mm (which is almost never the case), a 205/45 will have a smaller sidewall than a 195/50.

It really all depends on your wheels. I had MSP wheels with 215/40R17 tires and I only rubbed the INSIDE rear fender liner with a lot of weight in the car. The offset with the MSP wheels was just too high for me. I now have 17x7 Enkei RPF1's with a +45 mm offset and they just barely clear the fender with ~1 degree of camber in the rear using the same 215/40R17 tires. It's also highly dependent on the tires you have because a 215/40 made by Kumho is likely not the same width as a 215/40 from Falken.

I'm gonna run the stocker 16's and been looking at the Hankook Ventus R-S2 or BF g-force KDW2 but I heard that the gforces are little noisy? probably just gossip lol

oh also like the Yoko Parada Spec-2's

what tire brand is best? i know it can sound stupid but is it possible to have a rounder edge on the tire instead of cutting square...?(sorry bad english ^^)I think i will go with 205/45/16. you think those are good?http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?yr=2002&pc=41440&counter=3&ar=45&rd=16&vid=007052&sw=false&cs=205
