Superprotege still racing awaiting the completion of his big brother, supermazda3

Superprotege

11.6 @ 30 psi
:
394 whp @26 psi 02 Lx
Superprotege is still racing and waiting the completion of supermazda3. TBK Performance, the new owner of superprotege, is currently building a brand new 2.3L Mazda3 into a monster capable of competing in Nopi Drag Racing Series, Turbo Street Class at Moroso Motorsport Park, 4/5-6. The car belongs to a business man who bought the car for TBK to build it.

Supermazda3 has already been dynoed, putting down a base round of 144.97 whp and 143.30 torque on a really cold day.

TBK in collaboration with Hiboost is planning to have both cars ready for the event and are seeking additional sponsors. We are hoping to have a video journal if time permits of the build.

The main point of the build is a large turbo, sleeved block (from 2.3L to 2.6L) and a sick tune.

More info to come but we are not takin questions at this time.

Dyno vids, racing vids

We still have not gotten a good camera yet. Superprotege was having clutch problems going from 3rd to 4th gear (bad slave cylinder and woren disc). The car should be running between 11.5s-11.7s and we are hoping to get this on video in order to get sponsorship assistance.

Cool, but I don't know how well TBK is recieved on this forum after the whole other fiasco...

Wow!!

Thanks Mad Max, I just did a search and read the whole fiasco about TBK. I am going to be the first to admit that mistakes were made, even I got upset with Manuel from TBK for the length of time it would take to get my car completed after breaking something at the tracks. I am aware that this has happened to other customers of the shop also. He definately needs to work on his Customer Relations Skills, especially when giving expected completion timeframe to customers. He is a single mechanic who has had quite a few assistants that have come and gone, so it takes him a while to get things completed. At the end of the day it will be done, but it takes long. I know he is working on improving this flaw. We all have flaws and weakness if we are all honest with ourselves. Besides the issues with customer service, the shop does great work. If anyone however plans to do a project like mine or Miguels or some of the other customers that have had work done at the shop, please have another daily driver or expect a reasonable wait. Normally, the delay is parts not be available like they should be and sometimes there is a problem with shipping of the Hiboost kits from Columbia. Again, I am going to be honest, I have read a few other threads where Hiboost has not gotten back with customers in a timely manner or they have not gotten any response for a long time. This something Hiboost and TBK, both need to work on, however, at the end of the day, Hiboost's product is good and TBK's work is solid.

I was at HIN and mistakes were made and things were not handled as best as they should. The event was last minute and we did not even have enough light to shine on all the cars. I have learnt from going that these events are serious and you need to start planning in advance. These events are also very expensive. I do not want to open any old wounds, I just want to be honest about what I know.

I am asking this forum to forgive TBK and Hiboost for their mistakes and short comings. I know they are working on improving their weakness for 2008. I have dreamed to see the day, when everyday racers like I was and the other members of this forum, get our mazdas recognized and get just as much attention as the Hondas, WRXs and Evos in 4 cylinder import scene. That day is fast approaching as a business man has bought a brand new Mazda3. He has invested a large sum of money into getting the car ready for the NOPI Racing Series 4/5/08-4/6/08 at Moroso Motorpark. Hopefully TBK and Hiboost can come through on the build and the car does well.

I meant no disrespect to you or your thread Superprotege, your car is sweet. I jsut think that alot of forum members have been put off by Manual's shady practices and such, and that it will take a long time for him to redeem himself. Like charging the other guy for decals for a car they were borrowing for HIN, and then cussing out his parents, that's not cool...

Your car is sweet though!

As Owen mentioned...this is not a thread to pick at old wounds. There is the saying that goes "there are two sides to a story, my side, his side and the truth." Don't be easily swayed by one persons ignorance and incompetence. Make a ruling for yourself and not one persons personal grudge leading you to a conclusion. Again, you rarely hear about achievements, mostly just complaints.

On Thread topic...I am VERY excited to see what will come of the SUPERMAZDA3! Good times await as I support TBK Performance 110%. Once things get on their way i'm sure you all will enjoy future updates and vids.

Hey just another update on TBK and Superprotege....

Went to the track last week and these are the pics/vids. We ran into a few minor problems unfortunately but are VERY close to breaking the record.....again. We first got there and were told that we needed a "Diaper" to run anything in the 11's so this is the reason for the 12.0 on the window.

The first pass was AWESOME 60' of 1.6 but the car had an issue once in third and so he coasted for some and then continued down the track in 4th babying it...amazingly running a 12.4 still at 97MPH. The other issue we ran into was on our second run, broken axle at the launch. Guess the stronger clutch/sticky tires/race gas and 20+PSI finally beat the stock axles. Mind you those were on there since the car was built. I wanna say they lasted pretty long for all the abuse they have seen.

Also I will be adding some shots of the car on the dyno. More issues there as well as the car has TOO much power. Dynoed 380WHP spinning the street tires at only 26PSI. There was another attempt to shoot for the 420HP Goal at higher boost at 30PSI but the same story with the spinning tires. Manuel is VERY confident his car with stock head can make 420WHP with tuning and race gas of course. Time to go back with slicks to the Dyno!!

On the Way Home
On the way home2
On the way home 3

Vids at the Dyno and the track with the axle snap. I though it was funny since I thought the car was gonna go I re-acted and had to come back to the car. It takes off SOOOO damn fast off the line.

Alfredo was that on the Protege or the 3?

This was all in the Protege. Stuff for the 3 wont happen for a little while. I wanna say parts are still being waited on. Details later when the car is done. :-)

Will be posting pics soon just had an issue with my moms comp this morning.

TBK owner, Manuel Oviedo won hottest mild mazda at Hot Import Nights 12/15/07 for the mazda's that he brought with him to the show (5 cars in total went).

http://www.nationalcustomcarassociation.com/shows/z2007_12_15.shtml

Well Owen, I really have to say he Won 1st Place of Hot Import Nights 2007 Using My Car and not his or your Ex-Car... Im really happy with the final results of what he did to my car, but im just very sad and Dissapointed of what he/they did at the end to my mom and dad me being here in spain. I just think after spending 20k in his shop, being a good customer and having alot patience of waiting more than 8 months for my car to be completed, its just not a very professional way to tread or end up relations with a customer as said above who have spended 20k in his shop since day 1 of my project. Definately hes one of the best im not going to say mechanic because that word is not near to what he really is, he is the best of what he does to our mazdas and non mazda vehicles outthere nation wide and i might also say World Wide. I mean having a very bad customer service and not knowing how to take care of their customers, or their best customers and keeping them from coming back and still do business does not mean hes bad with his hands. after all and after all of those dissapointed actions they did against me and my family i still appreciate him, I still and always will think his a good honest Person that just need a better team work, he needs more professional people around him to really make his TBK Performance Shop to be the Best Performance Shop out there.he really need to know that making, money, money, money its not everyhing, sometimes you need to loose to win, you cant always ask for every single thing money, you need to give and have details with your customers, you guys know what i mean with these, my Conclusion, After all i have no hard feelings against him, His Shop or his work, sometimes in life to have something good and unique you have pay a high price, and i think everything ive gone through with him and his shop, good things, bad things, and horrible things for me have been worth the money, time, pain and tears.. I really wish him from here in spain the best in a personal and professional matter and hope he changes the bad stuff he and we all know and turn into a place everyone will want to come back and spend their hard work earned money on them. I really Wish TBK Performance the Best, and I thank them for making my car, bigger, Better and Stronger !!! A Proud Owner of the first Daily Driven GT3582R Turbo Mazdaspeed Protege !!!

Hope 2008 brings MANUEL TBK Performance everything he didnt had or couldnt make.. best of lucks Manuel..

Sincerely: Miguel Martin (Mazdaspeed2oo35)

im going to type these in spanish because these is just how i feel to tell you these..

Atentamente: Miguel Martin (Mazdaspeed2oo35)

Sorry for typing these in spanish guys, but it was the best way to express what i really had to say to alfredo, my english is not that deep and fluid for what i had to say to him, My appologies !!!!!!

I don't care what you've written here or anywhere for that matter. OMG I hate seeing when you write posts.... it's like your trying to write a book. I haven't put my nose anywhere more than all the other members on this forum have with your past complaints, it is an open forum. I made a VERY SIMPLE comment about a famous quote that did not need your paragraph response full of assumptions....And ALSO had NO DIRECT or INDIRECT relation to saying your family OR you were liers

Please DO NOT...again DO NOT clutter this GREAT thread with your complaints again.

Good Nite Fellas !!

Thanks Miguel

Thank you Miguel (Mazdaspeed2oo35) for being truthful about your experience. I really commend you for having the dedication, spending a ton of money and patience to see your car completed the way you want it. I was hoping that this year, your car, jakes's car, superprotege and supermazda3 could go to the race in 4/08 at Moroso to show what mazda's can do. Hopefully you will take the car to the tracks in Spain and post videos.

I hope no one post any negative about me, Miguel or Alfredo. We have shared our experience with TBK and want this thread to stay open so we can all get to see the real potential of the 2.3L mazda3.

Miguel's car, superprotege, CWILL and the other beast on this forum have shown the true potential of the 2.0L protege, lets see what the mazda3 can do now.

I am hoping to get a video journal of the build but if not I am hoping to have a picture journal of the build like Miguel did with his car.

As i said before owen, even though my experience were not the best with TBK, there is a true reality, that what TBK did is the best work until today done to a protege. im not saying these or trying be a a bad ass here owen because is my car, you know, these words are the exact words that came from manuel since it was his first really big turbo Protege done until today, and definately owen you have my word that as soonest i get my car here in spain ill be taking videos, a lots of pictures in the track to show to others what a very good work done to a Protege or a mazda 3 its all about, once again i really wish TBK the best in every aspect, personal and professional matter, and hope one day again we can all work like a family since we share the same passion, Building True Mazda Monsters. one day I told manuel he could take his work beyond the US frontiers, i told him once i get my car here i know lots of shops and people that are just waiting to see my car, waiting to see how in america we do things, and do it the right way, i know Hiboost and TBK makes turbo kits for lots of european models of cars, cars that are actually in south america like the Seat Leon Cupra, Seat Ibiza, Alfa Romeos etc, Fiat Etc.. i really have no hard feelings, im just a proud owner of one of a kind jewel that have been done the right way. for sure ill be checking these thread up for updates about the new beast its coming up soon, and def ill post track videos and pics of my car here in spain representing what we all have done to our Proteges and these case the new beast SuperMazda3, thanx for your comprehention and understanding Owen, by my side youll never going to hear anything negative about you and or TBK or Mr. Manuel Oviedo, you got my word on that !!!!! lets all be friends and work as a team, the past is the past and what ever happened its already behind !!!

Back ON topic, WHERE did the axle snap? The shaft itself or inside the CV joint? I've been debating whether or not to upgrade for the longest time, but it depends where they break...

I know for a fact that SuperProtege have been over 50 times on the track with no stock axles problems, once they broke a welded lsd and if not mistaken never the stock axles, but ill recommend you to upgrade them with the DSS Level 2 Axles if you wanna be sure, but also its true that we have to find out where did it break..., these is one of the reason im so affraid to take my baby to the track because once you put slicks you run the risk to break something, and on the streets as long you spin tires you are save...but i really want to take mine to the track to see what numbers im putting down at full boost with the meth injection..
