MS3 Sedan

How do you figure? You believe the M3 Sedan is a large car? The hatch was the logical solution to the MS6 sales slumping. If people were at all interested in a sedan, they wouldnt have had to slash the prices like they did to sell off those MS6's. the reason the MS3 is sportier is because its a hatch. You cant make a sedan that stylish without ricing it out to death and in the end, a MS3 Sedan would look like ass.

I remember when the MSP came out, all us P5 owners wanted a Hatch version. A sedan and hatch version would have been perfect, 2500 of each.

agreed...

i personally always liked the hatch version of the 3 better than the sedan, so i wouldnt really care if they released the sedan version, it would just make my hatch that much more unique.

I have never ever owned a sedan so I can't say if I like owning them any more than a hatchback. I have owned several hatchbacks and feel as though sedans are for the old folks (bird)

Maybe it's because I have mostly lived in cities and a hatchback is the perfect city car. You can put up to three chicks, I mean people in the back (for short distances) and parking is a breeze.

I never once wondered what the MS3 would look like as a sedan. No matter what though, if this car only came as a sedan but drove the same, I would have still bought it.

If I had a choice I would have picked the sedan. I used to hate the hatchback 3's and vowed to never get one.. Now that I have one I wouldn't look back.. Enter, 2008 STI!!!!!(2thumbs)(2thumbs)(2thumbs)(2thumbs)

There is a brace under the rear window of the sedan behind the seats and its a substantial brace for the rear of the car. The hatch has a lot more reason to flex, mostly cause it has a big hole in the back where the hatch sits. Haltech or Enganear, any other engineer jump in here. Sedan has better torsional rigidity, period. Why are you saying the sport ms3 will have the same price when only touring models are equal? The s sedan and s hatch has a $490 price difference. All other advantages the sedan has are minimal, maybe in a typical car, but they are all very relevant to a high-performance car like the Speed3.

I understand there is a better brace for the sedan, idk how much better, but i'm saying that there is not a complete loss of connection in the back. And i acknowledged that the price difference is for the sport version. The MS3 has a sport and a GT, so at least one of those would be the same. If the MS3 was a sedan it might be the same price as the hatch because the pricing of vehicles is not solely dependent on their value, but whatever mazda believes to be the best selling price. I will have to disagree with them being very relevant though. These minor differences would not be a major part, if any, to make a decision.

When I was deciding on my car purchase last year, one of the top contenders was an STi limited (no-spoiler version of the STi). I chose the MS3 largely because I can carry a bunch of stuff in it, and still go like bloody stink. I love my little station wagon.

Here are a Few Pics I took when the MS3 Came out, and went to the dealer to see it and Test drive it, and also took a picture to compare MSP Sedan next to a MS3 Hatch unfurnately there is no MS3 Sedan to see each other side by side to compare a Sedan Vs a Hatch, Judge you guys since in here we are comparing and talking about Hatch and Sedan, In no way im talking good or bad about MSP or MS3, just though could be a good idea to see both speed versions next to each other in their Sedan and Hatch Version evem though is not the MS3 Sedan Version..

Yeah really! God, that would have saved me so much time and effort, and I can only imagine the styling differences that could have existed...

Anyway, back on topic. I used to hate the 3 hatches - I thought they were hideous. That's the main reason I got the P5 - I used to be a truck guy and I hated small 4-door cars. I liked how Mazdas looked and felt so I was looking at Mazda3s hatches when I came across a P5. Despite having the better interior and engine, I just couldn't get over how ugly (in my opinion) the 3 hatch was. Anyhow, I will agree the Speed3 looks much better than the regular 3 hatch. It would be interesting to see what a Speed3 sedan may have looked like but I think if I were in the market for one I'd still lean towards the hatch (even though I think my P5 looks better (first))

I personally Like the Sedan Better than a Hatch all day long, but as you guys can see the Mazda 3 Sedan it's Light years away from the Mazdaspeed 3 Hatch, in these case I'll agree with the Hatch on the Speed3 since I don't think the Mazda 3 Sedan will be a nice Platform for another Mazdaspeed Version, and in my Taste the Speed6 Is too Big of a car..

It would be Very nice and Interesting if Mazda Comes Out with a Nice Mazdaspeed 3 Sedan, like someone mentioned before I don't think Mazda is Making one since the Mazdaspeed Protege Were Discontinued for the Mazdaspeed 3 hatch and Mazdaspeed 6 is Still in production, Even Though Speed6 it obviously a larger vehicle.. but it would be nice for those who have different tastes about Hatch Compact and Sedan Compact and not wanting something big like the Speed6

You guys bitching about the torsional rigidity of the MS3 seem to have forgotten that they added an extra brace to the roof of the car to firm it up. The car is plenty rigid for what it needs to do and feels great to drive, so long as your not slamming the breaks at high speeds. Thats unnervingly scary.

You see, This is why we don't get the euro hot hatches. Everybody and their mother hates the hatchback in the US. If the ms3 was a sedan(mz3 sedan) I would be posting on NASIOC or some other forum, because I would have bought a used STi or Evo. No way in hell a ms3 based on the current sedan will look nice. Mazda knew what they were doing.

I like both body styles. I have owned 4 hatches and 2 sedans. But I prefer the hatch(not the station wagon) over the sedan. But the MZ3 sedan is sooo ugly, it just looks wrong.

that's funny, I was considering one as my next car

I personally think it has nice, clean lines...

... not nearly as bulgy and bloated as the hatch

(hope sok07 doesn't mind me using his picture)

IIRC, they also added front and rear strut tower bracing to the MS3 (to keep the strut towers from flexing under severe cornering loads) that the std. hatch does not have... my vote goes toward hatch vs sedan; it's lines remind me a bit of the BMW 3-series sportwagons... an MS3 sedan (with the obligatory flying wing) would be a bit too 'rice' for my tastes, but then again, i'm prolly not in the target demographic for this car anyway.... hell of a bargain tho' when you add it all up...

base hatch has more flex than base sedan, therefore... MS3 hatch with extra bracing has more flex than MS3 sedan with same extra bracing.

Not necessarily. You cant just keep adding bracing to make something more rigid, there gets to a point of diminished return so adding the bracing on the sedan may have less of an affect than it did on the hatch.

CTGrey said it the best: "The car is plenty rigid for what it needs to do"

good idea, but bad idea. IT;s gonna look like a smaller ms6. plus if u look around, sedans are everywhere...time for a change
