MS3 Sedan

how many more ******* threads of this "I hate the ms3 hatchback, I want it in sedan" do we need? there's tons of this s*** on the board and it's been argued over and over again why they won't ever make one

the sedan was NEVER designed to be marketed as a "sport" model, and so it's styled less aggressively, more plain, and "cuter"

Right, which is why the sedan comes in an i or an s version, but the hatch only is available in the sportier s version.

I definately wouldnt call it cuter. The word "ass" comes to mind when i see one.

base hatch has more flex than base sedan, therefore... MS3 hatch with extra bracing has more flex than MS3 sedan with same extra bracing.
Does it? I'd be interested to see some numbers on that. Assuming you have some. I'd actually think that the hatch is stiffer because of the extra roof support after the C-pillar.

Beyond that, the sedan is ass. It's nicer to look at I guess, but rear headroom is crap, and I couldn't fit a 40 inch LCD TV in the back of it. The whole point of the hot-hatch is performance and utility, so I sure did just fine with my 'Speed3.

I'm not going to lie to you I wanted the Speed3 to be a sedan ALL along and was VERY dissapointed when it came out only in the hatchback. I actually refused to buy one because of it..... That is until it was time for me to trade in my '04 3Sedan and I test drove the Speed just to see how it was.. Holy feck did I ever fall in love with it!! Now I see why they chose the hatch and what a GREAT choice it was. I can't look at the 3 sedans the same way I once did when I loved them so much after owning this baby.

Exactly how I felt. Love the hatch now.

I traded my 3 sedan for the MS3. At the time, I really wished the MS3 came as a sedan. But with tinting, wheels and fat tires, I actually like it better than my old sedan.

but isn't it in the eye of the beholder? the MZ3 doesn't exactly strike a word of fear in my heart with it's lines. if anything i find it plain and boring and i think it's more of a sleeper. if anything they should have done more agressive body work with it.

i like the sedan just a notch more then the hatch. but i would have gotten a hatch to, i like them both. if i had the hatch i wouldn't have wished for a sedan and vice versa. i just love the car itself.

Buying the Speed3 was a no-brainer for me. I owned (and chose it over the fuggly sedan) a 2004 hatch with the 2.3 and the manu-matic (I forget what the hell they call the shiftable automatic) and loved the thing. When the Speed3 came out I thought "same car, better handling, better braking, 100 more horses - where do I sign up?" It was just a matter of time till I traded up. The only worry I had was if the manual transmission would kill my old knee. 15k on the car and no complaints yet. Only thing I miss from the old car is the handy dividers in the hatch area.

I love this car.

I spent many years in Europe and still don't understand why the Americans hate hatch back so much. Its much more practical than sedans. I can do my Home Depot run in my Speed3 and haul a lot of big boxes. It has more head in the back than the sedan version. The decision for Subaru to redesign their WRX as a hatch back so they can be competitive in WRC speaks a lot.

it's called the late 70s and 80s where everyone's parents drove their fuel crisis marketed econo shitboxes that had no amenities whatsoever... they were reliable, saved gas, UGLY, could haul s***, but UGLY... can we say traumatized? meanwhile, the japanese and europeans HAD the option to get a "sport" version of these same cars we had here... vw, toyota, honda, mazda, nissan, etc just didn't see it was a good idea to sell these cars here when they were trying to market "economy" "fuel savers" here... so as gas got cheap in the late 80s and people got sick of driving those ugly ass cars, finally did they tried desperately to regain sales by selling watered down versions of those sport models... the Corolla FX16, and 323 GT-X are examples of those cars... they were still ugly and didn't look a whole lot better than the normal versions.... and I say watered down because the JDM/EDM versions looked way better and do look worth owning even today

yes, their failure to market such a smart product brought trauma to americans over hatchbacks... they're now trying to sell hatchbacks again as hot ones instead and its not surprising that it hasn't been easy

That is the best explanation I've seen, about hatchbacks not being popular in the US.

Thanks for the insight! I have seen pictures of those ugly ass cars. I think ugly is an under statement.

From what I remember, there is at least one cool hatchback that we received over here that what pretty kick ass....the VW GTi. My dad had an 83 model with the red corduroy interior, golf ball shifter and luggage rack. I LOVED that car but after about three years, it fell apart like Courtney Love.

Oh yeah, I remember the 88 GTi, damn I wanted one soooo bad. It still looks nice to me. I wonder, are these Mk2 Gti's any good? Somebody Please!

Why the hell did someone go and put a big ass SCREAMER sign on the roof of the GTI...???? (lol2)

I know! And it doesn't even have V-Tec (boom04)

I hear you on the old Gti though. All those boxy body styles are classic. Although I do like where some cars are going in regards to smoothing out the body, some are just getting boring.

If you can find an older GTi like that one in the pic and throw some money at it, it would definitely be a fun car to drive (rockon)
