This weekend, I openned my rear, left door and the trim got caught on the back edge of the front door and bent the edge in. It also chiped the paint a little. Is there a bulletin out on this? Anyone else see this happen?

Damn that sucks, thats honestly the first Ive heard of it.... I would assume its under warranty, that really shouldnt happen!

wow that really sucks. DEFINITELY take that to the dealer and show it to them, that should be covered under your bumper to bumper warranty no problem

Yea, I need to bring it in. I think it was because the side trim on the rear door was stuck down too close to the front door plus the gap between the doors is a little too tight compared to the other side.

Maybe it's a defect in the door, particular to your car.
My doors seem to open fine - you had the front door closed and only opened the rear?

DEALER!

I actually had a good look at mine the first time I washed it, because it seemed close

but multiple open/closes of all four doors seemed to clear ok, but within 1/4"

I thing if they put the molding on wrong, it could easily do it.

the dealer had better step up on this, unless he is going to claim you moded your molding ... LOL

this happened to me today.. i was swearing up a storm when it happened and this guy thought i was swearing at him.. i closed the front at the same time i opened the rear... the trim peeled back and i couldnt get it to stay on... i just pulled it off on both sides, waxed it, and now it looks better anyways.. some would say "oh noes, doesnt it proctect your door from dings?" well i don't care cuz it really depends on the door shape and height of the car thats hittng you so it realy doesnt make that much of a difference to me..

i bet they don't... i think all ms3s and maybe even m3s too suffer from this. you have to time it just right when you close one door an open the other.

Sorry buddy, my doors clear just fine. After an extensive study opening and closing my doors there is no possible way my doors will hit. No timing issue at all. If doors are speced right they are fine.

It is called a DEFECT...

I notice that on the MS3 the trim tappers off as it nears the seam of the 2 doors. If it were boxed off I can see where it might hit but they are tappered for this reason I bet.

No, I went thru all the angles, unless temp changes the dimensions alot, they presently clear

I can believe there is variabilty in how they are applied

it shouldnt be some sorta game or puzzle as to when you can open your rear doors, thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard.

Sorry I took so long to get back. Here are some pictures. It happened on a hot day with the front door closed. I openned the back door and the right hand trim caught on the back edge of the front door. It actually bent the front door in about 1/4-3/8 of an inch, but my friend and i pounded it back out a bit with a rubber mallet.

I haven't told the dealer yet, cause it didn't do any real damage and I have been too busy.

Oh, forgot to add that I was hitting the corners pretty hard that day. Don't know if I tweeked something, but that would be really bad if this car isn't reinforced enough to take it.
