I hated the 06's, and after seeing a few of them around they dont look so bad. They look good with work done. And the sound makes up for the bad looks.

Weak!Subie's designs are weak! They have gone down since the hotter 98-01 GC8 coupes.

Mofugly any way you slice it imo! Too much accordization and camryizing going on with cars today for my taste.
Meanwhile, Camry and Accord are getting much better.(eyeballs)

The bug eyes WERE ugly, though. That's why they got changed.

man...i REALLY dont like it. i was waiting to see what subie was gonna come out with after seeing the new evo...which i like so much more. WAY more agressive styling.

I can totally see Chico's point on looking at thier market...while teenagers would love big wings and agressive looks its the older crowd buying them...but i mean hell...dont they do well in sales as it it with thier agressive wrx's now? i dunno...its a toyota/kia to me. fugly.

Haha! I like how the bone is just dangling out of his mouth. :) I don't know what it is, Pugs are just cool...

While I can definitely see everyone's points... (Especially after comparing the current WRX side-by-side to this variant... along with the current and upcoming Lancer) A question I'd still like to pose to the group is... What are your thoughts on the G35x? Or how about the IS350? To me, these cars offer clean lines with just a hint of aggressiveness. Definitely not over the top like, as an extreme example, the Charger. But in the end... these cars are flying off the dealer's lots. (at least around here) I think the reason is simple... Reliable, practical, fun, sporty, fast, quality, classy... these are all adjectives one would use to describe the two aforementioned cars. Through in 'affordable' and you've got the new WRX.

While I agree they could have done a lot more with the styling... With Subaru's recent history of fvckups, I think this is about as good as one could expect.

A couple things I just don't get though...

Did the horsepower go down??? Also, what's up with the lack of fender flares? I thought that was a WRX trademark. And 17" wheels???? Last but not least... though I like the overall look of the car, the grille is pitiful. Compared to the Evo that looks like it's snarling at you... this car looks way too happy.

So... maybe i overreacted a bit in hindsight. I guess I just figured they had addressed all of the things I didn't like about the WRX (lack of tech in the cabin, gauge lighting, frameless doors, position of license plate...) and failed to realize they may have taken a step backwards in other areas.

Hopefully all this negativity will equate to some nice dealer incentives cuz, after you slap on a new grille and wheels, this car will definitely look a lot better. someone with some photoshop skills... do your thing.

to me it is a grown up's wrx and that's exactly the problem. it's supposed to be a little bit gaudy, a little bit showy, a little bit in your face. not a car anyone and their mother could drive, that's what the legacy is for (and a better comparison for the g35x or is350). will softening help sales by broadening its appeal? possibly. as an enthusiast it's the wrong way to go though.

i thought the camry came out with a new design like two years ago...

oh wait, its a legacy.....(deadhorse

nooo, i just saw the rear end, its a malibu max

no??

dern it... is a WRX(omg) wtf...l gheyyy

I think that about sums it up.

Subaru already has the Legacy as their 'adult' car. Why the hell screw with their enthusiast market? Doesn't it make more sense to have both an 'adult' car and an 'enthusiast' car -- then you profit from BOTH groups of people?

Anyway, that car is terrible. I feel bad for it. It looks like some godawful result of a drunken night between a Saturn Ion and an older Hyundai Accent.

i think the front half of the WRX wagon looks good. i like the new hood scoop much better than the huge one they had before. but the back half of the car makes want to hide my eyes in shame for subaru

I've given this more thought and feel as if this might have been Subaru's intent all along. Ever since the Sti broke onto the scene, enthusiasts have had to make a decison on which one to get. Because the base WRX provided such a solid platform, many (on a budget) went with that and just modified it as they went along. Since nobody has even seen the Sti yet, perhaps Subaru intends to widen the gap between the two beyond performance. If my hunch is correct... The Sti will feature a much more aggressive look... different grille, maybe a different hood scoop.... obviously different wheels and maybe even fender flares! All of this could add up to the choice becoming a lot more difficult... or maybe even a no brainer for those in the market. Subaru's probably thinking.... these people clearly have the money (otherwise how could they afford to throw all that aftermarket junk in there) so why shouldn't WE get the added revenue? By turning the base WRX into a car that most enthusiasts (this thread and the one on the Subaru site are very similar) can't stand, they may be steering those very same people towards a (much more expensive) car they may not have normally "had" to buy.
