Prosport Tachometer Question

Hey. Im gonna be getting the prosport 52mm 0-8000rpm super blue tach soon and I wanted to know where the best place to splice into for a reading would be? I mean if the MSP gauge cluster with tach is plug and play with my dx harness and stuff without tach as ive been told it is then isnt there a wire on my harness im not using that I can get a reading from? If not where else would be the best place? And when I splice into power should I use the ignition power wire and where is it located? As for the negitive, does that just get grounded? And I dont know where im gonna install it either right now, I just know that im gonna get it, so im open for suggestions as well. Thanks guys.

Why not just swap out clusters? Sure the milage may change, but it looks way, way cleaner than a big old tach on the dash.

I know, I really did think about that, and I even had a thread about it, but ive kinda made up my mind for some stupid reason. Its not gonna be a big tach anyways, im just gonna put a 52 mm on the stearing coloum or something.

I hooked mine up to a wire in the connector on the drivers side under the hood. I don't remember the color, but I can find out and take a picture for you in lunch.

BTW, I have the prosport one in white/amber and it looks and works great!

Good to know, what size is yours and where did you mount it? I heard someone say you could splice it into the purple wire into the fuse box but I dont really know about that.

purple wire in the fuse box? never heard of that. you can tap into the one I did or the same wire on the ECU inside the car.

If you are coming on Saturday to the meet I can show it to your so you can see where I got the signial from.

Instructions say to use the negative terminal on the coil.

yeah, but we cant because we have coil packs so the signal is half. so we have to hook it up to the signal wire going to the ECU.

I tried doing that years ago and the tach only read half, so if the car was at 3k RPM, the tach would read 1.5K

it's the Violet/White wire going to the diagnosis port.

Yeah, maybe thats what I ment lol. The purple wire going to the diagnostics box But it seemed like there was so little room there to work with? It looks like a pain to get in there.

What wire going into the ECU can I use? Is it also violet/white? Theres just so little room near that diagnostics box and I would rather not run yet another wire through the firewall if I dont have too. Thanks.

Oh, and I dont care if its rice or whatever but I already ordered the tach and I dont know where im gonna put it yet but im just so damn tired of revving my motor up and nothing moving in my gauge cluster, its just not what im use too. And believe me, if an aftermarket tach makes my car rice you have no clue what I have to see every day living where I do. I saw this car today with a ton of rice s*** on it, but the one thing that stood out the most was the 2 sets of side mirrors on each door, I wish I coulda got a pic, I have no clue why you would want or even need 2 side mirrors on your door.
