that wire goes to the ECU, I am not sure if it's the same color though. try looking @ the ecu wiring and see if you can find a violet/white wire and use a tester to see if it has the same voltage when the car is on/off (huh)
or try to find the wiring manual somewhere and see which pin is the rpm signal in the ecu.
