Now THAT'S a nice rack!

This was shot a few years ago somewhere along the Oregon coast. For those that are interested, my Protege5 is the happy host of a custom-installed Yakima roof rack. It includes the following:

- Yakima 54" tracks (permanently mounted - no factory rack in Canada!)
- Yakima Control Towers
- Yakima 58" load bars
- Yakima Loadwarrior cargo basket w/ extension
- Yakima Hullraiser kayak rack
- Yakima Fullswing 4 - hitch mounted bike rack
- Yakima Viper fork-mount bike racks (x2)

I have also installed two Yakima Blockheads inside the hatch to hold two upright bikes inside in cozy comfort and safety. Nice trick!

For those that are wondering about the gear:

- Perception Eclipse 17 touring kayak
- Bianchi Tycoon 5400 Carbon hard-tail
- various bins of other gear (month-long roadtrip!)

Hope you enjoy!

I was a month-long escape from reality! My trusty Protege5 led me down the west coast to southern California, then east through Yosemite, Death Valley, Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, riding in Moab!, Arches, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Yellowstone, Glacier, ... a life-changing experience!

wow yea that really must have been. i hope to be able to save money and get off work long enough to do something like this

Thanks! After reading all of the headaches and/or confusion that surrounds the US factory rack and the optional Canadian rack, I am sure glad that I have a rack that I can depend on. It's pretty rare that I find something that I CAN'T haul on the car. There has been an easy 500lb of building supplies up there a few times.

I wish I had a shot of the time I had two 18' canoes on there! That was a sight to behold ...

you probably have just exceeded the 165lbs weight limit on your roof... but yes that is a nice rack and some nice accessories.

False advertising!!! I was hoping for a much nicer pic (naughty)

That is another reason why I chose to install the Yakima tracks. These are bolted through my roof where the black trim-strips sit and into one of the main roof supports. Very solid this way, and I never worry about the load on the roof, sometimes I am more worried about the load on the suspension!
