Does your Protege have this?

Hey guys real quick question. A buddy and me installed my injen CAI about a month ago and ive had a CEL ever since. We had a really cold patch (-40C) for a while and the CEL went away during that week so i narrowed it down to a leak. While i was checking for a leak and retightening the clamps i noticed this (see Pic) open 'Nipple' coming off the intake manifold, which was sucking air in. When i covered the inlet the car stalled so obviously it needs to breath but i would think that their should be a breather on it or atleast a filter.

My question is does your protege have this same nipple open or did we forget to reconnect a hose (see question mark) to it during the CAI install?

Thanks for your help,
Nik

Yeah, you definitely missed a vacuum hose....Don't know where the other end goes...Not anywhere near my car, but you'll want to fix that...

id say your missing a connection tube. did you buy the cai used?maybe the previous owner failed to ship you all the bits.

No vacuum hoses come with the kits...This should have already been in the car and attached to the intake and the throttle body...Look around for another loose end....Should be one in there somewhere.

i found a hose laying around the hose marked in the pic with the ?. it runs to a black canistor in the far back left of the engine bay which i assumed was a filter. when i connected the hose the engine stalled and shut off. other than that theres really no other loose hoses.

Gimpo, you wouldnt know by any chance which vac hose goes there?

well there is no light outside anymore. so can't check right now.

here's the manual

its most likely the one thats not connected right there... i think that one does goto the charcoal canister in the back passengerside on the firewall. connect the hose, reset your ecu, then start the car.

I had the same problem with my car when I was playing around with my intake. I just got lucky and found the little vacume line that came out. I ended up reconnecting it and then used a small zip tie to insure it wouldn't slip off anymore. Then I disconnected the negative battery terminal for 10 minutes to reset the ECU, and I was off.

Well thanks guys. i found my mistake. lmao i completely forgot to re install one of the sensors which connected the hose with the ? in pic with the inlet on the throttle body. dunno if that made any sense but none the less its all back together now. reset the ecu and i'll update everyone in a few days with the outcome.

Im pretty worried that leaving the inlet open to suck anything into the throttle body could have done nothing but harm since ive been driving the car hard for the last month and a half in dusty weather. :S Im an idiot lol

Thanks for you help guys.

Glad you found it. I doubt that you would have sucked too much up into your throttle body. It's behind the engine and its a tiny hole...you should be good.
