GT28R: what does it take to make it fit?

I think it has a 7psi WG actuator by default. Don't quote me on that though.

BoomerGT's GT28RS boosted 10 to 12 pounds without a MBC. So his turbo must be a 10 PSI Actuator. I'm assuming you should be able to order different pressured actuators for turbos though.

It's just a spring inside the actuator which controls boost (or rather the lowest amount it will run). I know with an external wastegate (such as Tial) you can easily replace the spring with a stronger one, or even combine them. But yes, you can buy different internal actuators. I'm assuming you want a weaker spring?

does anyone know what actual modifications are needed to be made to the actuator arm to make it fit? bend it? cut it? lengthen it?

so, tried installing the GT28R tonight. Here are the results:

The wastegate actuator hits the block. We can't make it longer because it'll run into the clutch actuator assembly. The only idea we came up with is to get another actuator, cut the shaft short, and mount the actuator between the turbine housing. The other option is to send the turbo back, and exchange it for at GT25R (MSP turbo).

Does anyone know what other people have done to get the GT28R (not GT28RS) to fit?

Can you not move the actuator toward the turbo a little. You are talking less than an inch here dude.

the actuator is connected to the original bracket by spotwelds. In other words, can't be removed. We could cut it, but then would have no surface to make another bracket.

Here are some higher res pics [1600x1200]

From what I've read ypu use a stock MSP wastegate actuator or modify the GTRS one.

what is the difference between the gt28rs and just the gt28r?? why is one a drop in and one have to be modded

that's what we did, that and a custom bracket

I'm not sure. Probably the wastegate actuator's location/bracket.

i didn't get pics of the finished/welded piece, but that's what we did.
