so my parents are going to buy me some new tires for christmas. ive decided on the yokohama parada spec-2's. found a really good price for them too.

205/40-16 are $65

205/45-16 are $69

i dont know much when it comes to tires. ive done some searching are have realized that you can put those sizes on the stock p5 rim. the question i have; is there going to be any significant differance between the two. since the 40's are a shorter sidewall, will the ride be noticably different than the 45's? i have fairly stiff springs right now matched with illuminas so the ride is pretty firm.

what are ya'lls thoughts?

im dead set on getting the yoko's so comments on which size to get only :)

i think if u have more meat on the tire, the better off you are from like popping it and bending the wheel and such from hitting potholes and such, compared to thinner sidewalls. but 40 to 45 shouldnt be that much of a difference, are the roads over there bad like ours?

the roads arent bad. fortunately for us, we have some of the best roads in the nation. no huge potholes or the like here. roads may be a little rough, but nothing really bad.

These are for your stock 16" rims?

If so, I'd get the 205/45's. More sidewall = better reaction to bumps/etc.

Also it's probably closer in overall diameter to the stock dunlops which I think are 195/50's. That means your speedometer won't get too messed up.

I personally prefer the look and feel of a 205/50/16 as it fills out the wheelwells a bit better. Plus, with the notoriously poorly PENNdot "maintained" roads in SEPA I feel safer in my daily commute.

205 45, if u get 205 40, it may be near impossible for any normal guy to get that tire in...

Of the two choices that you have, I would go with 205/45. The 205/40 might look funny on this car.

yea the appperance might be a bit funny on the 16 stock p5 rim, but as far as potholes, i have 40's and i haven't had any problems and here in Montreal i think we have some of the worst potholes in the world, just have to be a bit more cautious , but ive hit some nasty holes and haven't had any damage.

205/45 by far and I speak from experience. More sidewall will give you a much easier ride and fill the wheel gap in nicely. It will also protect your wheel from any road hazards.

I have 205/45/16 on both sets of my rims (stock & 5zigen's).
