My track times

OK guys- I finally made it to the track tonight since the exhaust and FP kit.

First run- 97 degrees- straight off the road to the lines- 2.41 60'-14.62@95.8- better than I expected due to the heat. This was with 10.5 psi.

Second run- 2.53 60'- spun HORRIBLY and ran 14.84@96.8- worse ET, 1 MPH better.. About 11 psi..

Third run- about 75 degrees, 110 octane fuel- 2.43 60'- 14.57@98- I tried to run 14 psi and the damn car fuel cut in 2nd twice, so I reached down and turned down the boost (running a Blitz DSBC now), hit third and looked, it was only at 5 psi, so I turned it back up to 9 psi- while running :).

Fourth run!!!! :D 75 degrees, 110 octane- 11.5 psi (settled to 11 at the top of the gears) 2.35 60'- badabum- 14.21@100 mph!!!!

Have any other MSP's hit 100 in the 1/4 yet? As I have always said, the car LOVES the cold weather. I just wish I could have run my 16 psi or so that I wanted on the race fuel- it would have gone 13.7-13.8 @104 or so..

Not exactly what I wanted, but 14.2@100 isn't shabby at all. There were 3 SRT 4's there also all running 14.6-14.9 :).. I out MPH'd all of them too :)..

also for those who don't belive temps will effect the dyno #'s that much, do the math- 96 MPH when it was hot compared to 100 mph after it cooled is at least 40 HP difference.

I also wish I never bought the race fuel- I can run 11.5 on pump- so the fuel probably hurt performance. I used it hoping to run my 16 psi. Oh well. I know this car has a 14.0 in it on pump gas with a bit more tuning..

For those who don't know, my mods are-
3" downpipe back exhaust (still have the stock cast elbow DP) with free flow cat, 11 psi and my FP reduction kit. I even put the stock air box back in and just left the filter out for those runs- after hearing about the dyno #'s with the heat from the fans and the K&N, I figured it was worth trying the stock box out.

I will go 13's next time out and 14.0 on pump gas now that I am getting a better feel for the car at the track...

do you think a front mount might help to solve this problem of the heat affecting the car so much?

yes. it will prevent quick heat soak and keep charge air cooler for longer. anyone thought about heatwrapping their systems for the summer?

I really think that it would help a lot. I just got this gut feeling that the car needs it and it would run a hell of a lot better.

Not for 1/4 mile, I highly doubt it.. Most of it is due to how rich the MSP runs. On a hot day, the car is sluggish from the get-go- heatsoak doesn't happen until a sustained boost load. Road racers will definitely benefit from a FMIC due to extended runs, but for 1/4 mile, I am not looking to the IC anytime soon.. People all have their own opinion of this, but I have been there, done that with the IC thing :).. I ran 11.9@116 on a stock sidemount with bigger inlets and outlets on my talon and 11.9@117 with a $1500 FMIC. Not worth it right now.. I will be doing water/alky injection though and that will cool the charge tremendously.

mx3- I will be making a 2.5" dp elbow custom for my car and then my exhaust guy will be doing 2.5" and 3" complete systems that are a direct replacement for any part of the stock exhaust. My whole system is custom and will not really bolt in place of any stock part.. I do have a free flow cat on it now. Basically my cast DP that runs from the turbo to jsut below the oil pan is still stock, it is 3" from there back with the cat too..

Nice times Joe, you'll be the first to hit the 13's w/ the msp soon i see....

I hope so :).. Hopefully next Weds :).. I know what the car did and didn't like and I plan on playing with it over the next week to get it where I want it.. I still hve stock plugs too- I want to drop them down to a colder plug and see how far I can go on pump gas first. I think for sure 14.0 with good weather. And to think people have told me an MSP will never go 13's or 100 mph on a stock turbo . This is just the tip of the iceburg. I have only been to the track once before with this car and that was to get an idea of what the car ran basically stock. Now I am getting down to the tuning :). I am going to have to go back to the drawing board with the FCD unit too.. I may have to have a boost sensor or switch on it so it only works under boost in order to get my high boost without hurting part throttle drivability..

Just for the non believers, here is a pic of my slip (gave my scanner away because I never use it :( )..

Also, I know the car would go 13's on pump gas with drag radials and a more aggressive launch easily as it sits right now, I just don't want to break anything. Besides I prefer an easy launch and let the car do the rest :).

sounds good! i didn't know how much more HP you could pull out of your exhaust system.

i forgot that when you drag your car at the track, that you usually have time to cool down. i'm used to highway runs, fun runs and autox-ing. my one time at the 1/4mile track was bad because of the long wait too... its late and i'm not thinking. please forgive me :)

hehe- no problem :).. It is not that an IC wouldn't help this car, but not $1000 worth of help. There is more power to be found elsewhere first. As mentioned though, the road race guys would probably notice gains in lap consistency though..

One thing I am going to change is my IC piping- I can't see it lasting long at 16 psi :). It swells horribly at 11!!! I am waiting to hear a loud POP while under boost (well- two loud pops- one from the pipe, the other from the rods :D lol)

Joe

Thanks, I usually cut better R/T's, but I was more worried about trying to get the launch just right than cutting a good light :). My best was .669 tonight, worst was 1.004 :)..

I usually cut .550 or so once I am familiar with the car..

haha, so true. i guess you've noticed the pipes don't like heat.

Haha- just wanted to say it SRT4= OWNED :)!!!!! Man, they didn't run faster than 14.6 at best... Hahaha.
Joe

Yup.. Should have gone.. To me it was crowded- I only got 4 runs. I am used to Island where you can get 7-10 :).. I might be going next Weds if you want to go, shoot me a PM if you want. Later.
