Hey, does anyone have a picture of both the stock rotors and the rotors on the protegegarages kit? I'm thinking of getting both front and rear from Ken, but I'd like to see the size difference. Also if anyone got his kit with 16" wheels could you post a pic here? I'm still running 16" so I'd like to see how it looks. :)

Thanks everyone

I believe the BBK offered is the Mazdaspeed Protege Caliper and Rotor? Not too sure...

Here are some pics with the big brake kit on my p5 on 17's. I painted the caliper flat black to match the rims.

Thanks to Ken @ Protegegarage for an awesome product and service.

Looks good, but a little small for the size of the tire, although I'll be running 16s for a while so that wont look bad I guess.
Another question, why do these come at a lower price compared to others? Do these maybe not come with something extra that other kits provide?

The protegegarage big brake kit is approx inch bigger in diameter with bigger calipers and I love it so far, stops like there is no tommorow.

With the 16s, it'll look pretty big.

This kit wont have nearly the performance of the bigger big brake kits. Basically the protegegarage is a MSP brake conversion. Its has larger single piston calipers and slightly larger rotors.

By contrast, the more spendy kits have 4 or 6 piston calipers and much larger rotors (many require 17s to fit)

what good is the "performance of the bigger brake kits" if the 800 bucks you spend on them are ONLY for the front brakes? then you have tiny, bad stock rear brakes and have fubar brake bias... and you'll probably be too broke to buy good tires too... so you'll lock your front tires up, slide off a curve into a tree, and die

the $800 is for front and rear. fronts only are $350.

TheMan was talking about big brake kits sold by others that only contain the front and not include both like Ken's does for the same price.

hehehe, a little negative dont you think? how about I just get mangled? at least I have some chance of recovering

well if you cant pay to play- then dont.

But its my understanding that the fronts handle the vast majority of braking. The new audi RS4 has stock 8 piston front calipers and only single piston rears. I really dont think its a huge issue to have 4 pistons in front on the protege. Im %100 sure you will be fine wiht a 4 piston front and mazdaspeed (protegegarage) rears.

But sliding is JDM tight.

the protege garage bbk isnt the biggest, but it is the best balanced braking i have ever felt. you guys can get your 13in rotors and 6 pot calipers and have screwy brake bias that looks good. im going to stick with mostly stock looking fun, with more braking power than i honestly will ever need.

exactly!
if you can lock up your tires on the highway with the brakes you have right now, then your brakes are MORE than powerful enough! you need better tires more than anything... you ONLY need that fancy s*** if you are going to road race AFTER you have experienced crazy brake fade on the stock system (with upgraded pads)

hmmm, so far, I've had the car since last november and I've locked the brakes twice. I know the front tires are stock rims with stock size dunlops, that I was told where purchased about a month prior to me obtaining the car. Would crappy tires really cause the brakes to lock up? Now when I drive in the highway I'm always affraid of locking up the brakes and hitting whoevers in front of me when I have to stop fast cause of traffic and crap. So what you guys are saying is that I should upgrade tires before thinking of getting a bbk?

better tires = better grip = will hold on longer before starting to slide (generally...)

EDIT: The only times I've locked up were either a) at an autocross or b) on the road, by myself, no one around, to see what the brakes were capable of in both dry and wet

I can lock things up at 30-40.

Ive had to do some emergency braking manuvers from people cutting me off.

I think the stock ES brakes are even pretty good just look too small lol. They saved me a few times and I was pretty surprised it helps too that are cars are not super heavy.
