protegegarage big break kit

I happened to reading an article recently in Sport Compact Car about big brake kits. The thing is that even though common sense tells you that a bigger kit would decrease stopping distances, it doesn't do any good if you have bad stock tires. It's actually better if you upgrade the tires and upgrade the brakes but not to the extreme of a big brake kit. Plus you can probably use the size wheels you want!

SuperPro, I read that same article. :) Thats why I'm hoping I can find some nice wheels and tire package this weekend.
damn skippy Laser, I want my new wheels to look good. Thats why I'm getting a front BBK too. Am leaning towards Ken @ protegegarage but not 100% sure yet. I wouldnt mind a bit of a larger diameter rotor but I dont wanna spend $1k on just the front.

Does anyone know of a not so overpriced BBK with like 12" rotors?

that kit looks nice, but I dont think its worth it since they dont even give you new calipers. Ken's kit comes with new calipers right?
anyone tried making their own kit? you know, getting the brackets somewhere and whatever rotors you wanted. Wonder how much that would come out too.

yes, i did try making my own kit and its the Big Brake Kit i sell :D

if you piece the parts needed to do it, ones that actually mate to the car, new from mazda you will be guaranteed to spend far more than what i sell them for. if you get them from junkyards you can probably put it all together for what i sell it for. the difference is i sell FRESH parts for that price. think about this;

for under $1200 you get larger front EBC rotors, larger front calipers, larger EBC rear rotors, larger rear calipers, stainless steel brake lines, new front and rear pads. for a full front and rear brake kit that offers all new performance rotors, calipers, stainless lines and pads - $1200 seems like a fair price to me.

i have nothing against multi-piston calipers and full on brembo/wilwood kits out there and applaud those with the money to buy them. for your full on track car they are superb. i do think for 90% of your street cars out there that these kits are overkill and totally unneeded for effective braking.

yes...even those that can afford them/track them, 6pot calipers are wayy overkill. these cars are light, and the pg bbk is more than big enough with proper pads/rotors

Ken, you are right, I dont think I really need much more braking power, but thats why I'm looking for a bigger rotor, for the looks. I dont plan on spending extreme ammounts of money on just a Front BBK even if it looks good for the simple fact that I cant justify it. If I do get it from you, I think I'll go with just the fronts for now and maybe later on I'll get the rears. How much are you selling just the rears for?

Have you looked at Powerslot rotors? If you're just looking for rotors then I think you should give them a look as I believe they have stock sizes and bigger. Not entirely sure though.

Ken,

I really not feeling the gold color of the bbk that your selling. Can you get it in silver or black?
