A pillar gauge pod?????

I got my apillar gauge pod in today. I'm debating on weather to paint it or leave it black.
anyone have any pics or input on this?

i went to a paint store and they can match the paint pretty well and it will cost me $35. i would have to air brush it on.
clean the gauge pod
sand it down to get the gloss off of it.
clean it again.
use some paint stuff to open up the pores (sp) (another $17)
then use some primer (and another $10)
then paint

is it going to be worth it?

I think it will look better painted. But theres some SEM Vinyl color s*** that matches pretty close i think. Not sure if its worth 65 dollars to paint it a matching color when the SEM is like 13 a can maybe and it matches close enough imho.

but will it crack or chip over time?
i'm trying to avoid doing it over and over again. if i do it once i want to do it right

Check it out. I have a triple a pillar form autometer in my P5. I went to PepBoys(local auto store) and got a can of medium grey vinyl paint refinisher. Forgot who makes it. Ill check it out later. Its for paint that has faded or chipped. It matches perfect. I dint even have to primer. I sprayed it on and it worked great. I suggest buying two if its a triple pillar cause the alot of area and its a small can. I will post pics this weekend.

The paints I used. The Titanium one had a lot less paint in the can so I think that's the one that matched the interior. Took 1.5 cans to put on like 6-7 even coats. It matched perfectly (even though the cap color looks way off).

I'd have pictures but lovemyprotege5 stole my Apillar pod when he moved back to WA.

the vinyl dye stuff isnt really paint, its supposed to bond with the material. actually i think there is SEM plastic prep also. not sure, but im just giving you some options

I'd do a web search. I bought mine at a local apolstry store.

The other can I got cause the lid looked like a closer match to the stock color. It looked really off though once it was on and dried.

I kinda like the black, myself. I plan on leaving it au naturale when I install it in a couple weeks.

If you follow the Home Depot recipe for paint matching, you will get a slightly newer looking pillar. Once installed it's extremely difficult to tell since the other pillar is so far away.
My process:
1) Wash pillar with soap/water
2) Use Plastic primer
3) Airbrush on Home depot recipe
4) Use satin acrylic clear coat.

Edit: My 2002 pillar looks old and moldy next to these perfectly painted pod pillars. I might take out my passenger side pillar and paint it just so it looks newer.

wow that looks good. i have mine painted already, i'm just waiting for my gauges.
i used the paint that was recommended on page 1

Mine was painted the same as my outside blazing yellow. But after the shop trying to gel coat, then heavy primer, then painting, its starting to crack a little. So painter beware.

I have a single pod for the pillar. Im using the sem paint right now. I put 3 coats on it and it looks good. Do you guys think i should put more coats on it?

I wonder how the whole A-pillar post would look painted all black on both sides. Anyone tried this yet?
