Mike its more like Bens' oil loss problem than anything else. There are LARGE # of turbo mp3's out there....(I know of 8 mp3's personally that are turboed) I have seen alot of people commenting on the motors lack of strength.....thats a bunch of bull. Why would Mazda rely on the stock FS motor for the mazdaspeed?
Its really a matter of how you install your turbo, take care of your car and driving habits.
If all of the previously mentioned aspects are not correctly covered your car will not last, regardless if it has a turbo or not. As for Bens misfortune well that was just bad luck:(

In my case it looks like the cause could have been in the ignition coil, nothing to do with the turbo or installation.

Well the first thing I did when my car broke was took the reading on the ignition coils and the high tension leads, the no. 2 ignition coil, which is the one that plugs into cyl. no. 2 and leads to 3, was reading nothing, the no. 1 ignition coil read fine. If you take a look at the picture I will post as soon as I get upstairs you'll see that the no. 1 and no. 4 pistons are black up top, and the no. 2 & 3 are fine. What I believe happend was that the no.2 Ignition coil went dead at the time the no. 1 piston was firing, and caused an overload to the no. 1 ignition coil, melting my piston. I ran this by a mazda guy and he thought I was on to something, so he searched for the part number for the mazdaspeed ignition coils, coincedetally it didn't show up, so he called to find out what it was, apparently they are having some problems with them and are looking for a resolution. Another weak part of the FS engine? I think so.
