I know, I know-I'm an idiot. But can someone please give some details as to where jack stands go in order to keep the car up safely. About to mess w/ the exhaust and I dont want to end up damaging the car or killing myself...thanks

Look in your manual. Under "changing a spare tire" there will be a diagram showing the jack points.

To expand on that a bit, generally you would use the jack points for lifting the car and the vehicle hoist points for your jack stands. I'm looking around for the info but it doesn't seem to be in the OM. I'll check the service manual.

Ok, according to the workshop manual, you're supposed to drive the car onto 3/4 inch thick boards (front wheels only) and place the jack at the center of the front crossmember (just behind the engine, first pic) and the center of the rear crossmember (where the suspension comes together, second pic) and place the safety stands under the normal tire-change jack points at the side sills.

When raising the rear, place a board between the jack and the rear crossmember.

Thanks for the help. Just to be sure, I jack the car at the where you explained, and since the jack is not utilizing the jack points, I put the jack stands where I'd normall put the jack. Does that sound about right? I really appreciate the help...

The Speed 3 looks a little different under there. Anyone have locations for the front and rear jacking points on the speed 3? Photos would help a lot. Thanks

If you're just jacking it up, use the pinch welds on the rocker panels (the reinforced areas).

That's all I got.

Problem is how do you slide a stand under the car if you are using pinch points where does the stand go?

So your basically telling me that there are no short cuts....I have to jack each corner?

No, I'm sure there are undercar jack points. I just don't know why they would be different on a Speed3 than on a regular 3. If you're saying that it's different, then I can't really help ya.

What work are you doing that you need to get it off the ground?

Goldwing has it right. Jack under the cross members and put the stands under the pinch-weld jack points.

Stock jack FTL. Scissor jacks are absolutely ridiculous.

I jacked mine up last night by the crossmember and put the jack stand there as well...no buckling, creaking, etc. Very stable, so thanks for this thread!

There are center jack points like the 3 on the MS3. They just look a little different. The front one is on the cross member in between the front wheels towards the driver side. The rear one is right in the center of the cross member between the rear wheels. I had to jack up my car on the normal jacking points in order to see this.

so I initially jack up the front of the car in the middle of the cross member, and then I can place the jack stands on the specifically marked areas for the scissor jack (the vertical piece of metal that is perpendicular to the ground and has 2 nipples indicating the spotting)? that is safe correct?

instead of jacking the front then back i did the sides one at a time. unfortunatly, this meant i had to put the jack in the middle, lift, then put the stands on either side under the lift pts. and it did slightly indent the long pinch weld area between jack stand points. i'll try front and back next time, oh well
