Does anybody know if this key blank would work for a 2003.5 protege5? I dont understand exactly why some blanks cant be cut for certain cars, but I need to be pretty sure this will work before I dish out $50 shipped for it....I know it is a lot for a key...but a friend of mine had his mother's audi a4 for a week....and I couldn't stop playing with the pop out key.....it was sooo fun....I really need one of these! I dont care if the remote buttons dont work! Here's the link:

Thanks!

i think it will work...not all that sure tho. i'll keep checking this thread. i've got a couple of key fobs that i could take apart and see if i can get the guts inside one of these things. maybe i can get the buttons to work and have a functional pop out key with remote!

It should work. Most cars that can't have their keys cut except only by dealer have microchips in them. The keys for mazda doesn't have a chip inside so they can be cut almost anywhere.

all i know is those types of keys are laser cut.

i dont see why it wouldnt work though

Yea I was thinking about doing that too. The stock remote come apart easily, but I'm not sure if the buttons on this remote even move....

Kinda lame (and expensive) if the fob doesn't work. Some keys are just longer/shorter, fatter/thinner. U must start with a compatible sized blank, then cut from that. But yes you're right, it's addictive to play with :D

My pa has a 96 benz s500 with that exact key. I'll try to get a pic of it next to my Mazda Protege5 key so you can compare.

Ok, the S500 key has a different style of teeth than the mazda. However, the pic in the ebay auction looks more like a regular car key than a benz key...so I would say that the key could probably be cut. My best advice though, and this goes for all ebay auctions, is to browse the guys feedback for somebody who won the same item and email that person and ask if it worked.

BTW, the flip out thing gets old really quick...but if you dig it, you dig it.

Wow thanks a lot! It looks very close to same one as in the auction! I think I'll just take the chance and get one of these....they're so much fun...

Lame. It says right in the auction that the buttons don't work. When my wife got her VW I thought the remote was pretty cool, but after a while it's a pain in the ass, it always pops open in my pocket and pokes me in the leg. I actually took her key off of my keychain because it bugged me so much.

why bother since you can get a mazda OEM pop out that will function fully. Mazda is comming out with them for 2005 on the RX-8 and then the other models over time.
