SRT-4 OWNERS! - Post your reviews!

My buddy has a SRT-4 blew his engine he rigged the wastegate with a turnbuckle or something blew the engine now is trying to get a new one from Dodge, I think that is why Dodge os not excepting this aftermarket stuff with warranty work at least it is getting a lot harder

not being a dick but i don't think dodge should cover his car from rigging the wastegate. this is why warranty work is getting harder and harder cause of people like him.

I think Dodge warrenty is great...they warrent a new wiring harness on my buddies SRT-4 with no question asked after he ****** it up trying to wire emanage.

About the power issue...it can be easily cured with Unichip. With the price alot of people paid...unichip, intake and a thicker innercooler with hardpipes probally about $1400 worth of mods will give a pretty similar result to a SRT-4 with stage 1 and the MSP still has the advantage of better handeling. What makes dodge great is that they will warrent mopar upgrades but that also means the dealer can charge whatever they want for it. Think about what stage 2 is and is it really worth that much? Sometimes if you talk to your dealer they can be pretty cool about moding the MSP like ours. I have to admire what Dodge did...putting a 2.4L turbo charged engine in a neon chasis is amazing and scary. They did a very good job considering it handels pretty good with that huge engine up front. The thing that scares me is just the power in that body...obviously a chasis that is not designed to have 300-500 hp.

Alot of people around here are saying that Dodge is not doing this, warranty aftermarket Mopar parts.

They are covered under warrenty! The parts are covered. If the part fails and causes the motor to fail...they fix it!

Now to the topic, I now own an03 SRT-4 and love every bit of it! I have the Mopar stage 1, STS, Mopar cat back, AEM cold air, Mopar BOV, ETC. Just the features alone in the Stage one is well worth the 300 I paid for it! You get the WOT shift (which works AWSOME) Bigger injectors, The list goes on. With the mods I have Dyno'd at 248whp.
Now for the car... I have not had a problem with anything except the alignment of the Exhaust wich burnt my bmpr above it. It was replaced under warranty. The handling is not as bad as some may say. Of course my MP3 (WHICH I MISS) handled better, but with a few mods the SRT can be very close. I understand alot of people don't like the looks but for me... I like it alot.

By the way the 1000hp srt drag car uses the stock crank, block, and head from the srt. so they are not the weak link in the system. the weak link is the tuner. YES there is going to be a limit to the amount of horsepower. If I remember right Steve was going to put another Stock SRT motor in before the Forged built one to try and hit the 600hp mark.

Hmmm, looks like someone's bra is on the backseat floorboard. (boobs2) (hump)

You keep telling yourself that. Try reading the Mopar Performance Warranty sometime.

Well I work at a Dodge dealer here and I think I know what we have covered and not covered, on my car and others! Haven't had Chrysler b**** at us for doing it. There are a few dickhead dealers that don't cover stuff cause they have a hair up their ass. I hate those ones that try to take the cheap way out. Still I don't understand some of their desicions cause they get payed either way So who knows.

I sat in one the other day, definately liked the seats, I'm pretty tall so they worked well for me. The boost gauge was nice and liked the location also liked the other gauges. The shifter was just too american for me sorry. I know it is american but I just dont like a big stick with a ball on the end. The exhaust note was great I loved that. Not too fond of the looks though, but if you put some eyelids on it and drop it I think it looks very nice. I don't think I'd get rid of my msp for one though. Give me a front mount and boost me at 14psi and take my muffler off too and I think I should be able to hit the same times as them. Just my thoughts.

okay since I driven the SRT-4 more then a few times I can give reviews instead of being an ass

SRT-4 Pro
- Viper seats are amazing...**** side airbags. I can see why it has it.
- Power...brutal power...when the turbo spools you'll be glad to have those seats
- exhaust...stright pipes make for a mean sound
- Warrenty..dont know what most people say but i witness 1st hand at how cool dealers are about the SRT-4 warrent and will warrant mopar parts. I believe local dealer bob dance even warrents any other aftermarket parts as long as they install it and approve of it.
- engine is a master piece...strong and torquey with that extra 0.4L of displacement. strong internals. lots of potential
- Mopar whether we want to here it or not they are better at supporting the street scene then Mazda...that may change in the future. They were once thinking of doign a AWD upgrade for the SRT-4.
- Pretty roomy just like the MSP
- LSD...Quaife is the best!
- Stage 2 is awsome...love the intergration into the dash and the function of the 100 octane map. Stage 3 is rumored to be amazing but pricey.
- innercooler is effiecient adn good for alot of power.
- Front end is mean looking and scary.
- Boost gauge is awsome but its an autometer
- car engine has lots of potential...but lots of car engines can have potential when rebuilding/tunning. In stock form its a nice engine.
- gas milage is not that bad for how much power it puts out...V6s with similar power out puts cant get that kinda milage.
- Great for daily driving and around the city. and a street slayer on the weekends atlest on the drag scene.
- ECU is alot better then the MSP.

SRT-4 cons
- I can not get over the looks. I think it looks hidiious (IMO) the front end is okay and is kinda cool but everything from the front door and back doesnt suit my taste.
- Narrow tires...and the dreeded Neon Wheel gap...especially the back! Can be corrected with springs. Its like the front is lower then the back.
- Awful turning radius. At slow speed you have to turn the wheel in advance to park...thank god we dont have much parallel parking here. Its a car you might consider valeting since the turning radius sucks. But remind everyone it is FWD and 2.4L so that was a inhertited problem. And I drove a Explorer for 5 years and the turning radius is argubally worse on the SRT-4.
- cheap looking and functioning interior. Passengers dont have power windows
- engine layout is lame...turbo and exhaust manifold is 1 piece. Too close to firewall so upgrading to bigger turbos is a problem. Dodge couldnt get that maybe a 2.4L engine might be alittle too big for a neon chasis.
- Stright line power yet lacking alttle in handeling but still decent compare to most cars.
- Chasis scares me sometime...I cant imagine high speeds in a neon chasis...unless its at the track. The Proteges have been track proven in SCCA so I feel safer in a MSP. Safty wise I would think the protege chasis has an advantage over the neon chasis. Cuz last time I checked Consumer report wasnt happy about the saftey of Neons. But they do rally with the SRT-4...SCCA rally. There is slight body roll when I drove it on the highway turning onto a off ramp...not bad but could stiffen up a bit.
- Map sensor owns all and isnt a pain in the ass...responds well to mods.
- Dual exhaust is kinda ricey...is there a neeed for dual exhaust on a I4 engine? Its kinda like the S2000...why? Cuz it looks cool? lame in my opinion.
- spoiler looks like a DSM or supra wing...thank god for a spoiler delete option. I would probally put a SXT spoiler
- shifter sits too low for my liking feels like a truck. 1st gear hits my thighs/knees sometimes.
- small gas tank...maybe they did it for drag purposes. For track I guess you would want better weight distribution.
- antenna...can not stand it. why can more modern cars grasp "in glass antennas?" I would put a tennis ball or foil on it just makes me laugh everytime I see a mean SRT-4 and this huge antenna is sticking up. Kinda like 240s but atleast they have kits to shorten them

Overall a good car for a good price. I say dodge did a good job. Which is the ultimate downfall becuase i know alot of assholes who drive SRT-4s and I know alot of cool ones. its Personal preference, power or handeling. I made up my decision. Dodge invested lots of money into the engine and tranny. Mazda invest alot into everything in the MSP. all cars have weakness if not they are super cars. If it wasnt for Mazda I would be driving a SRT-4. They made the decision by giving my almost $4K off. $4K worth of goodies on a MSP will make up for the short commings. After college is done i hope to have a real sleeper... ;)

the thing I find funniest is the statement "it has so much more potential" than a protege....

IMHO thats a total joke...

I would bet 95% of the people who say that will never go out of the MSP's potential... and we all know the SRT isn't magical and that some otherwise stock MSP's have thrashed them with only a MBC... and if you think this is cheating dont forget that the SRT has a higher stock boost level... so I consider it only leveling the playing field.

NOT TO MENTION, my car, when done will smoke 99% of srt's out there... and look better 100% of the time (IMO)
I'm the 1%.(glare)

I am not going to sit here and type some long review. My car is fast....I mean its insane. Watching the front of a R6 go behind you as you pull by him is the biggest rush ever. I mean its nuts. I love this car to death. But I also loved my MSP. I wanted to get where azain is with his MSP when I had mine, but she got jacked. All in all the SRT is a amazing car. I'm not trying to be cocky, but for the amount of money I have put in it, the car books.

Nice SRT "evilsrt". Looks mean up front. I have not really ran into any srt owners out here in Co. yet. I see them but have never talked to any of them.
