okay since I driven the SRT-4 more then a few times I can give reviews instead of being an ass
SRT-4 Pro
- Viper seats are amazing...**** side airbags. I can see why it has it.
- Power...brutal power...when the turbo spools you'll be glad to have those seats
- exhaust...stright pipes make for a mean sound
- Warrenty..dont know what most people say but i witness 1st hand at how cool dealers are about the SRT-4 warrent and will warrant mopar parts. I believe local dealer bob dance even warrents any other aftermarket parts as long as they install it and approve of it.
- engine is a master piece...strong and torquey with that extra 0.4L of displacement. strong internals. lots of potential
- Mopar whether we want to here it or not they are better at supporting the street scene then Mazda...that may change in the future. They were once thinking of doign a AWD upgrade for the SRT-4.
- Pretty roomy just like the MSP
- LSD...Quaife is the best!
- Stage 2 is awsome...love the intergration into the dash and the function of the 100 octane map. Stage 3 is rumored to be amazing but pricey.
- innercooler is effiecient adn good for alot of power.
- Front end is mean looking and scary.
- Boost gauge is awsome but its an autometer
- car engine has lots of potential...but lots of car engines can have potential when rebuilding/tunning. In stock form its a nice engine.
- gas milage is not that bad for how much power it puts out...V6s with similar power out puts cant get that kinda milage.
- Great for daily driving and around the city. and a street slayer on the weekends atlest on the drag scene.
- ECU is alot better then the MSP.
SRT-4 cons
- I can not get over the looks. I think it looks hidiious (IMO) the front end is okay and is kinda cool but everything from the front door and back doesnt suit my taste.
- Narrow tires...and the dreeded Neon Wheel gap...especially the back! Can be corrected with springs. Its like the front is lower then the back.
- Awful turning radius. At slow speed you have to turn the wheel in advance to park...thank god we dont have much parallel parking here. Its a car you might consider valeting since the turning radius sucks. But remind everyone it is FWD and 2.4L so that was a inhertited problem. And I drove a Explorer for 5 years and the turning radius is argubally worse on the SRT-4.
- cheap looking and functioning interior. Passengers dont have power windows
- engine layout is lame...turbo and exhaust manifold is 1 piece. Too close to firewall so upgrading to bigger turbos is a problem. Dodge couldnt get that maybe a 2.4L engine might be alittle too big for a neon chasis.
- Stright line power yet lacking alttle in handeling but still decent compare to most cars.
- Chasis scares me sometime...I cant imagine high speeds in a neon chasis...unless its at the track. The Proteges have been track proven in SCCA so I feel safer in a MSP. Safty wise I would think the protege chasis has an advantage over the neon chasis. Cuz last time I checked Consumer report wasnt happy about the saftey of Neons. But they do rally with the SRT-4...SCCA rally. There is slight body roll when I drove it on the highway turning onto a off ramp...not bad but could stiffen up a bit.
- Map sensor owns all and isnt a pain in the ass...responds well to mods.
- Dual exhaust is kinda ricey...is there a neeed for dual exhaust on a I4 engine? Its kinda like the S2000...why? Cuz it looks cool? lame in my opinion.
- spoiler looks like a DSM or supra wing...thank god for a spoiler delete option. I would probally put a SXT spoiler
- shifter sits too low for my liking feels like a truck. 1st gear hits my thighs/knees sometimes.
- small gas tank...maybe they did it for drag purposes. For track I guess you would want better weight distribution.
- antenna...can not stand it. why can more modern cars grasp "in glass antennas?" I would put a tennis ball or foil on it just makes me laugh everytime I see a mean SRT-4 and this huge antenna is sticking up. Kinda like 240s but atleast they have kits to shorten them
Overall a good car for a good price. I say dodge did a good job. Which is the ultimate downfall becuase i know alot of assholes who drive SRT-4s and I know alot of cool ones. its Personal preference, power or handeling. I made up my decision. Dodge invested lots of money into the engine and tranny. Mazda invest alot into everything in the MSP. all cars have weakness if not they are super cars. If it wasnt for Mazda I would be driving a SRT-4. They made the decision by giving my almost $4K off. $4K worth of goodies on a MSP will make up for the short commings. After college is done i hope to have a real sleeper...
