selling out...

MSP's are turbo!??! When did this happen?! I could of swore the turkey was just the blinker fluid heating up..I said, a real turbo car..Not a protege with a hairdryer.

Boost = Fun, cheap(er) fast

but all-motor fast does earn more respect.

The spool of a turbo followed by a bOv iz a beautiful thing to hear, though...

exactly...A friend of mine had a '89 626 Turbo...first turbo'd car I ever drove...and was like "whats the big deal?"...then drove a custom turbo'd 00 Civic Si...and was like "whats the big deal?"...Then drove an old beat up Eclispse GS-X and was like "feels sort of quick, but handles like s*** on wheels"...

Then a friend of mine bought a S-14 240SX...swapped in a SR20DET, ditched the T-28 and through a T-big-ass, and let me drive it...and from then on I understood what the hype was about...Then later drove the GT-2, and really really really understood why it kicks ass...

An MSP, especially stock, can't even begin to represent what the turbo crowd is crazy about...

But Topher..if you don't want to stay NA...don't...its not our car, its yours...just do the mods you want to do, and spend your money the way you want to spend it...we are all pretty grown up, no one is going to make a big deal out of it...

i'm kinda uptight about the whole smog-legality thing here. i wish one of these kits would become smog legal.. wasn't the flying protege kit in the process of carb certification before they dropped the whole thing?

Unmodded the msp feels so inhibited. Unless you get the exhaust off the car it does flat out feel slow.

edit: gen1GT do you have pics of your car handy?
Here's some pics.

Kyle, with that whole NA rant thing, I can't believe you're arguing FOR turbo. To make a turbo car enjoyable, you need massive amounts of horsepower. Then you lose drivability. Lets see you modulate the throttle on a sweaper without understeering into the bushes. Or how about pulling out of a hairpin in AutoX? Either your RPM are too low in second and your off boost, or your at 7000RPM at full boost and all you have is wheelspin and understeer. A FWD turbo car with tonnes of HP is only good in the straight line.

lol...i'm giving all my parts to my wife to put on her mp3...it'll stay n/a...but my p5 will be boosted. i'm gonna boost mine and then start to work on hers...i'll do the same stuff on hers that i planned on doing to mine...but her's will be done over time...i just wanna be fast NOW...so, the mp3 will be a n/a beast, the p5 will be a f/i beast.

good choice, one of each to play with, let us know how your FI route goes also, which kit you choose and everything, cause if in a yr i cant get that evo im gonna boost my p5.

Welcome to the darkside..... the force grows stronger.

Give the Hiboost kit some consideration.... you will not be disappointed. But, there are lots of options for you which is great.

Regardless of what people say... going FI is extremely satisfying... especially when you install the kit yourself. After that their are many ways to constantly tweak and maximize the performance of the engine.

thanks for the encouragement. i've wanted the hiboost since it came out...so that's the kit i'm going with...now i need to save up for it. hopefully i'll have a good month in sales and i can go ahead and get it.

while you save money.... do yourself a favour...and spend some time learning about as much as you can on FI. It'll be tough to read the xxxxxx posts in the FI section, but look at the stickies and possibly look at reading a few books.... it will seriously help you in the long run.

When you are ready to install.... you can count on me for any support (as best as can be done via the internet). The hiboost family helps the newbies out....

thanks for the help!! i've read a TON on f/i...i know the basics...and i'll keep reading. everyone tells me i research my stuff WAY too much...but i like knowing what'll help me, what will hurt me, and why i need the stuff i need.

You can never research too much...it took me 1 year of reading, asking questions, reading posts... before I picked up the kit.

I was ready to buy the Spool Stage 3 Kit...when Terry had notified me that I would have to wait 3-4 months (that was when they were so backed up). Then a few months later....Hiboost came along....I guess the Hiboost Kit was meant to be.

i was looking at the hiboost a little over a year ago. i called juan several times...read quite a few threads on here and other forums...i know what it takes to make a boosted car run...VERY fast. i need to brush-up on a few things...i know you can't ever stop learning...so i do plan on hanging out in the f/i section while i save up some $$.

Reminds me of the Maserati 250F F1 car that Fangio drove. Had the same 4.5L 4-cam V-8 as the Maser-Costin "bread van" LeMans coupe. The friggin' thing would come on the cams at 6800 and take your head off to 10,500. Another 200 revs and they scattered shrapnel in a 100 yard radius.

More than 400 HP almost totally out of control, even with a 6-speed. Of the four coupes built, three were destroyed in the first two months of racing because the drivers couldn't control the power band. Fangio was the only one to successfully handle the engine in F1. Jean Behra drove the same car and finally killed himself when he lost it in a corner and ended up in the lower limbs of a huge trackside tree at Nurburgring...

Yeah, I'm still doing an all-motor P5. Slowly. Takes bux. :(

OTOH, I don't expect to find a piece of the FS block in the back seat from too much boost. :D

Thanks GEN1! I love it. vewy vewy sweepy. I bet she sounds nice too.

As for all the knocks on the msp; I didn't go insane and try to get 300whp out of it, it just doesn't make sense to me on the car. It pulls very strong now and the feel is incredible. The exaust and FMIC really smoothed the power band and I couldn't be happier with the way it pulls, corners, and feels for everyday driving or for a spirited run. I realize it's not a T66 and I dont' want it to be. I want to pull away from cars that don't expect me to and enjoy a trip to the grocery store all in the same car and for me the stock turbo with bolt ons delivered. Lay off the harassing "it's a hairdryer" comments because the car allows you to reliably make hp without killing yourself or the car in the process.

Topher save money and expect things to go wrong. This way a problem doesn't mean ramen for 4th quarter for you and the family. I love seeing people find ways to make the FS in any way improved and when done right an aftermarket FI kit can steal the show.

blabbering over

Jason, how'd you find your way to the NA section?

Anyways, I'm not saying boost doesn't have it's good qualities. The whole point of NA build-ups is increasing volumetric efficiency, which superchargers(a little known fact, is that a turbo is a type of supercharger) do to the extreme. I'm like a hometown hockey fan, who's team is Natural Aspiration. I'll argue to the death that my team is better than every other team, even though it's just personal preference.

It's awesome that you can do two build-ups too. With the MP3, you have the advantage right from the start for an all-motor set-up. 10hp isn't easy to come by, and you already have more to begin with. I want to see an MP3 go all-motor, and I still want to see and FP-DE build-up. I think that little bad-boy could scream......who's gonna take THAT challenge.

Heathen, thanks for the compliments. It's definitely a sleeper, especially with the factory 14s on. No bling, all go. Still, as much as I'm not an NA fan, I'd like to get behind the wheel of a 300hp Protege. (rockon)

Dude I LOVE turbo..LOVE IT..I'd turbo my cbr if i could..But the protege isn't a great car to attempt to get s*** loads of power out of..Just levels of practicality..Go for it man. Boost! N/A..Boost..Its all realitive..Just whatever makes you enjoy the car.

Gen1, my wife's mp3 will be all motor...once i get my turbo and swap the parts i can't use...i'll build her's up...until i get frustrated again and boost it...lol.
