Phone echo and text messages not playing

Hello all, first post!

I purchased a 2025 CX-5 Signature about 3 weeks ago. I have never been able to get my android auto to play a text message. This is wireless or wired, it will not work. Anyone I talk to on the phone also mentions a very bad echo. I had tried everything I could find online about making sure all settings were correct, volume up/down on phone/car, unpair and repair, etc. Nothing has worked. I talked to the dealer and felt slightly blown off. They stated they do not even have any updates for the 2025 and everyone tries to blame it on my Samsung phone.

So today, a friend of mine with an Apple phone as well as a 2022 Mazda CX-30 stopped by. We tried her phone in my CX-5, exact same problems. We then tried both phones in her CX-30 and they both worked well (Android auto or Apple Car play). So to me, it is clearly my CX-5.

Does anyone have any advice other than saying it's got to be my phone? It works perfectly in my F150, Bronco and her CX-30.

So many views and no ideas? I am at my wits end! Please help! My OCD is killing me having a great suv that does not have a functional system! It's basically unusable for anything other than Nav!

Are there any other Bluetooth devices in the vehicle? Any dealer-installed GPS tracking devices? Maybe there is interference.

Otherwise, you're onto something with your CX-30 tests. I suggest you do the same thing at the dealership so they can clearly see it's an issue with your car.

It will also record my voice and send a message. Just will not display or play the original text message out loud, if that makes sense.

I hope not. Several people have come online, and not just with Mazdas, asking "what is this thing" they found in the car.

This will sound basic and it's not an assumption of your capablities, but tech support has to start somewhere: have you tried turning up the volume knob while the sound is supposed to be playing? This is crucial because there are different volumes for different outputs, just like your phone. It's possible the voice volume is down. It happens often with navigation directions too, which has its own volume level, and can only be adjusted during the few seconds the sound is active.

No, that's a very good point! But yes, I did. I also tried volume all the way up on the phone and down on the car and visa versa as some said that was the cause for the echo problem. It did nothing. But to your point and may be another piece of the puzzle, when a text should be playing the volume will not change. If it's on say number 10, turning the dial will not turn it up or down.

I know with my other vehicles that work properly, the playback volume should be able to be adjusted.

Is your phone connected via Bluetooth in addition to Android Auto? If it is try disabling that connection.

Disable Android Auto, try your phone just through the Bluetooth function. If it works fine and you can receive text msgs, (text and voice) then the problem points to AA.
I just use the bluetooth connection for my phone and voice is clear and text msgs come through fine.

Are you saying that you're able to get audio playback of txt messages when your phone is no connected to AA or CarPlay? I'm confused.

That's exactly what I'm saying. I don't use AA, never did, don't need it and my phone works perfectly and my text msgs come through, even the text msgs are spoken in a sexy voice when the car is moving as well as being displayed on the screen.

AA solved the "phone navigation is the best but it's a small screen and I have to mount it somewhere that's not ideal" problem.

Your text messages are displayed on your Mazda's infotainment screen? Can you provide a photo, I'd like to see what that looks like.

As well as displaying the msg it also reads it to you.

My 2024 has no ability to display or read txt messages when connected to my Apple phone via Bluetooth.
