Best we can tell is stock for the AWD Turbo is 2.94/4.11 per AutoEXE. CS has different numbers but they seem a bit exaggerated to me so I'm not sure if they're accurate.


So you're running them now? These improvements you note are before you changed the tires or including the tires?

Adjustable sway bar links are definitely required if you care about ride quality. Don't skip them.

If you want an improvement in ride quality, there are no shock absorbers (dampers) available for our 2nd gen cars that I'm aware of, so you're looking at complete coilovers.

But the ride quality is definitely coming from the shocks because the spring rates aren't that high.

I don't see Cygnus as offering anything for us. It's only Ceika and BC Racing.

Cygnus has this comfort coilover. It can be used for Other applications so I think CX-5 could be one? Comfort based, smoother ride than stock. Interesting. I fired off an email, waiting to hear back

It is possible to drill and tap a hole in the shock body, and replace with lighter oil. I used shock oil from a Honda cycle dealer (a long time ago).

You will lose the nitrogen pressurization...

Stock springs are actually 2.9K Front and 5.3K Rear. This is what I got from Corksport's analysis.
I'm using Ceika's comfort coilovers. Id recommend those but with 5k springs on the front instead of the 6k they recommend and with adjustable end links. 6k backs are fine. It's no luxury cruiser but more comfortable than stock while still being stiff. It got rid of the highway front hopping and feeling every crack in the road. If that's not enough, I switched the 19s to 18s that can run thicker tires at a slightly lower psi.

I am stumped. Looked online and can't find a good shock/strut/spring combo. They seem to be performance (handling, stiffer ride etc):
Eibach
H&R springs
Bilstein

I did come across the Ceika Comfort Springs and agent told me I need to be careful and have the right spring rates - if too soft then it might bottom out and ruin the ride further. I could get bump stops if there is??

I really want to see if Ceika coilovers on full soft and comfort based shock valving + spring rates tuned a bit softer than OEM.
As you said, stock is 2.9K F and 5.3K R. What rate would be allowable for the CX-5 to still not bottom out? Thanks

I'm not sure about individual shocks, but for coilover sets they have front wheel drive only, so I'm not hopeful. The rears are divorced so that applies to both FWD and AWD.

Sorry into 2025 and reviving an old thread

Purchased Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 tires in 235/65R17 size for my 2024 CX-5. I expected a squishy, soft and compliant ride that soaks up bumps and being quiet. But I had them installed today and was told it's set at 34 PSI. The ride is still bad. Very stiff and loud. I don't know what's going on. People state these tires transform a CX-5 but I don't notice anything fixed.

Also backseat had a clip that fell off during service. Could you help me identify what it was for?

Those tires are rated significantly better on Tire Rack for comfort, a 9.2 versus 6.7. I wonder if something is wrong with your suspension?

Hi,

I've driven a used 2019 CX-5 back in 2022 and felt firm too. And in 2017 a new CX-5 with parchment interior rose smooth as butter and very quiet.

I don't know my car is good but I'm told tires help like 70% for smooth ride.

What tires do you run and is it smooth?
Tirerack is good but tires can be good in one model and different the other ,

I think you need to test drive a current CX-5 from the dealership on the same roads that you drive every day. This will be impossible to diagnose as a problem with your car unless you can confirm that another model behaves the same, or different.

You live in an area with bad roads. Mazda's are not designed for rough roads. Yes, it's a crossover, but it's priority still weighs slightly towards handling and good road feel. It's not a "comfort" tuned car.

I emailed Tire Rack,

They told me the Pirelli runs at higher load capacity 104 or 1984 IBS per tire vs 1764 on 100 OEM.

So I would need to run it down to 29 or 30 psi to match load capacity of OEM. And likely smoother ride. Is this legit and safe?

I don't want to hydroplane or have tread wear etc. ok with slight mpg hit.
