What are you using for NAV?Lack of turn by turn on HUD is the biggest and probably the only issue that makes me sad. Is there really no way to enable that? I think I'd even invest in a head unit replacement if that was an option.
I user carplay. I know there is a built-in navigation that puts directions on the HUD. But it's a disgrace from the usability perspective compared to Google or Apple maps. The one I had in '16 CX5 was actually better than the current oneWhat are you using for NAV?
That's a different issue. Your phone needs a cellular connection to periodically download and maintain the map picture (and routes), but it may still use the car's GPS to determine where you are on that picture. So, I am not so sure that my Iphone is using the car's GPS antenna when connected through carplay. And I say that because I've noticed numerous times, when I am on the freeway, far away from the big metro areas, I lose the signal and the map becomes blur. Most recent example: I was in St Croix, US Virgin Islands, trying to put an address in the google maps connected to the carplay and it did not work until we got to a spot with a better cell coverage. We had to drive out of that place for few miles until the map would become usable.
Yep and I eliminated the data requirement by downloading the map. That's a different issue. Your phone needs a cellular connection to periodically download and maintain the map picture (and routes), but it may still use the car's GPS to determine where you are on that picture.
So, I did some reading about this GPS - Carplay issue. It seems that Carplay is using the car GPS when connected wireless. My iphone is connected to Carplay by cable. That explains why I (still) believe that my iphone is using its internal GPS antenna, rather than the car GPS. And I did a quick test. I put the google map on the Carplay. It showed my location, all good. But then, I started turning my phone left and right and sure enough I could see the google map on the Carplay screen moving left and right. If it would be using the car GPS antenna, it should not move at all, am I correct? That's a different issue. No, that's just it using the phone's accelerometer sensors. GPS signals would not change unless you are moving. But then, I started turning my phone left and right and sure enough I could see the google map on the Carplay screen moving left and right. Well, THAT's interesting! You use CarPlay from an Android phone? On my 2024 I connect via carplay with android phone.
Yes I do. The downside is, next time a get in my car without using carplay, it will not connect via Bluetooth like it normally does. I have to go in settings and select Bluetooth.Well, THAT's interesting! You use CarPlay from an Android phone?
OK, I thought it was a typo, but I guess you're just confused. CarPlay is Apple's tech, only available from iPhones. I think what you mean is AndroidAuto, if you're using an Android phone.Yes I do.
