What have you done to your CX-5 today?

Yeah, just the drivers side woofer. I have the other three for the remaining doors but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Insulating and installing the new speaker took about 2 hrs on the drivers door.

I have a 8” Rockville slim subwoofer on its way from Amazon. I’ll install that under the passenger seat when I have a chance. It has high level inputs so I can splice off the wiring harness behind the stock head unit.

I removed the rear seat bottom cushion and applied some 'Boom Mat' to parts of the sheet metal under the carpet. It might be possible to put some under the footwell area but it might be a bit of trouble. I know this stuff helps but I don't think I'm up to that.

I agree. I peeled up the carpet on the drivers side floor and found something interesting. You know that black epoxy like material that's under the spare tire in the cargo area? The floor of the vehicle is covered in it. It appears to act as a sound deadener.

Because that's already there, I may opt to put some closed cell foam on the floorboards (decoupling layer) and put a layer of mass loaded vinyl on top of that. I don't think the butyl rubber sound deadening material is needed for the floor due to the factory material. Mass loaded vinyl with a decoupling layer seems much more appropriate there.

If I had to do it again, I'd use MLV sparingly (10-15% coverage) focusing on thin metal sections, then Closed Cell Foam as much coverage as possible. Light yet effective........but somewhat more costly.

I Installed a Curt class III trailer hitch on my 2016 CX-5

Did you install the taillight adapter and plug? I guess you only need it for trailers

I have the kit and I have run a 12v from the battery to the rear. I haven't plugged the module in yet.
I also ran an extra 12v cable at the same time for camping accessories.

Put a new EFB battery in because I started to get a few “battery maintenance system fault” messages on the dash.

Put a new Century (Yaesu) T110 MF stop/start battery in it, all good. Found that it is well worth shopping around. The dealers want nearly $500 for a battery replacement, I paid $260 at a specialist battery shop.

EFB (enhanced flooded battery) is required for Mazdas with iStop system. They are a fair bit more expensive than standard flooded batteries.

His CX-5 has i-stop which requires a special or bigger battery. Group 35 we usually get won’t work.

I traded in my 2017 GT =( It sucks because I loved the hell out of the car and expected to drive it into the ground, but I have 3 kids now so I needed a third row. Ended up getting a 2016 CX9 GT. Feels very similar to the CX5. I barely feel like I'm driving a third row vehicle.

I finally took my front door panels off to check out the buzzing speakers. I added some silicone caulk on the back side which I hope will reduce the buzz for good. My initial test passed. I can't believe it took me 3 years!!! I probably should have gone to the dealer to complain before my warranty expired! If you remove the door panels be sure to have some extra clips. I broke 3 on the passenger side, yet none on the driver side??

There’s a TSB on these Bose 9” door woofers for gen-1 CX-5. The revised woofers have better water-resistant protection so that it has less chance to develop rust which causes rattles. Although I had not heard any rattles as my volume usually kept at the minimum, but I showed the TSB to my Mazda dealer and they replaced both door woofers with revised ones before the new car warranty ran out.

Yrwei52, I have a 2016 GT. I did not notice any corrosion on the speakers although the door design does let water into the speaker area. I only noticed it with bass heavy music turned up loud which I do frequently. If it continues, I'll probably just replace the speakers themselves.

Hi @yrwei52, you can set your vehicle and location information if you go to your Account Details. Click on your username at the top of the page, then click on "Account details". On this screen, about halfway down, there are two fields. The "L:" field is your location, and the "V:" field is your vehicle information. Note that there is currently an 18 character limit for each field. Click "Save" at the bottom of the page to save your changes, and you're good to go.

I believe you may also be able to edit what is currently underneath your username, but if not, you can send a message to @Antoine who can assist.
