The unreliable Mazda ?

Lol@200k miles.
3-400k miles is where the real differences show up.

And what part of my Avalon died at 150K did you not get, yeah I really saw the difference, lol. So I guess I could follow in your foot steps and be a troll on the Toyota forum and constantly bash Toyota and say how unreliable they are based on my one bad experience with owning their vehicle...and I've found that most people who want to argue about how reliable Toyota's are, have never personally had one that went 300 to 400K they only ' know someone ' who has had one...and Toyota reputation of reliability is more based on some of their vehicles longevity from the 80s and 90's than now. I know several people who had early 2000's, 1990's, and 1980's Toyota's with 300 or 400K, but I haven't found many Toyota owners who own Toyota's in the last 10 to 12 years that have put over 200K on their vehicles. Toyota's superior reliably over other brands is more perception nowadays than reality...if your such a Toyota lover, you would do better buying a Rav 4 and spending your time slobbering over it on the Toyota forum, instead of constantly complaining about your one experience with Mazda.

On the Tacoma/4Runner club, if your truck goes 500K and dies, you got a lemon. There are plenty of people there with a million plus miles on their trucks and still chugging along fine.

You mad? I've not yet owned a Toyota, but my friends and family swear by them, and I'm constantly getting odometer pix in the Facebook timeline. Just got back from visiting my grandparents, too. 367k on their 2001Avalon, runs great, and a little under 200k on their 2011Avalon, also doing fine.

Thing is, I have nearly as many miles on my ONE cx5 that i bought 3 years ago than you put on every skyactiv vehicle you've owned. Combined. And I consider it just getting broken in by GM standards for the engine. I have no idea on the transmission. I've had bad luck with transmissions that shift on their own. Great luck with manuals at least.

No one really has a high mile skyactiv vehicle yet. So it's all just subjective and conjecture. I mean, name or show me ONE skyactive with 350k miles on it. Just one. Any platform. And....go!

I think highest I saw so far was around 200k miles.

Anyway, I'm sure there's a few out there, but naturally you are comparing cars from 2001 and 2011 to cars that are newer, so there are of course going to be more of those older Toyotas at higher mileage. I mean I have a 2014 bought in 2013 and I think I drive a ton, yet I still only have 66k miles on it. To me the CX-5 is still too fairly new of a vehicle and you aren't going to see a lot of high mileage ones yet for a few years still. And by high mileage I am talking 200k+.

And I am just saying comparing a 2015/2016 CX-5 to a car that's been around since 2001, that's not even remotely fair. Who the hell has 350k miles after 2-3 years? Nobody, that's who. I'm sure there are some 2013 and 2014 CX-5s with higher mileage, I've seen a couple posted on here. But I do think that a lot of people trade in or upgrade far before that point and therefore it's hard to say for sure. I plan on keeping mine for a very long time, so when I hit that mileage, you'll be the first to know. ;)

I got 300k miles out of a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and my god was that car a turd. My CX-5 is not a turd so I fully expect to hit that and hopefully more.

Agree with CBurrel: not many people keep cars beyond 200K, so who cares? aND IF ANY CXAR BECOMES UNRELIABLE BEYOND 300k... WELL i DON'T CONSIDER THAT A FLAW. tHAT'S A LOT OF DAMN MILES...

I doubt I'd keep a car past 150k miles from new. Chances are I'd trade it in for something new. That said I'd like 150k "quality" miles out of a car though.

Just disregard Uno. He like to incite threads here.

If you have said 250k he would have come back with 400-500k.

A couple of months ago I bought my first Mazda, a 2016.5 CX-5. Not sure why, my 2002 Toyota had just over 80 thousand miles and had never given me any major problems (new set of tires and a brake job). Just got the new car bug and gave in. The cx-5 wasn't new but had just over 22K on the odometer, Now after two trips to the dealership, strange noises, unexplained engine surging and three recalls I fear I may have made a sixteen thousand dollar mistake. Unfortunately reading some of the comments here have not been all that reassuring.

What say you "Mazdas247" are my fears unfounded (nervous) Is the fun to drive Mazda a repair shop's dream and owners nightmare or am I worrying about nothing ?

Read Any online vehicle forum. You will think that they are all unreliable after reading enthusiasts’ complaints.

Gotta say I agree with you.
Comparing any 2001 vehicle that ran great for 300K miles and then declaring that the 2017 version will be just as reliable is pure folly.
I have a 16 year old Nissan Pathfinder that's just over 200K miles, and it's still running strong. Does that mean the 2015 Pathfinder will be just as good? Absolutely not.
Apples to Oranges.
If someone has an older Toyota or Mazda that's run without problems for 20 years, more power to them, but you cannot extrapolate 20 year old reliability stats and apply that to any current vehicles.
I have no idea if my 2017 Mazda 6 will be reliable in the long run, and I doubt any stats from the 2004 model year (as an example) will tell me anything.
I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.
Unfortunately, we won't know if a 2014 CX-5 (example again) will have long term solid reliability until about the year 2027, or thereabouts.

Odds are......

If you look at Mazda's reliability throughout the last 20 years or more, you'll find that the majority of their cars have had above-average reliability. When I bought my 2014 3, I had a very good idea about how reliable it's be and it hasn't let me down one iota.

So yes, sufficient data can present odds that are in your favor if you use them wisely. Corvettes have always been notoriously unreliable. I knew that before I bought a new 2001. Odds were that I'd have issues and I certainly did. My present car ownership experiences are vastly different....just as data had revealed.

agree, and miles aren't 1:1 even with the same make/year vehicle. owner A could be highway traveling 90% of the time and put 200k on their vehicle and owner B could be traveling on hilly terrain in stop and go traffic and put 200k on their vehicle and which one do you think will make it to 300k?

And the real question should not just be "how long did it last", but rather "how much did it cost to keep it running that long".

Not really. Compare. Look at this forum. People whining about a mirror shaking or some other superfluous mess. Then go to something like the Jeep forum. Read those complaints. Trends emerge...

Really? I know the c4 had issues, but c5 and c6 were pretty solid. I had a 2001 trans am, which used the t56 and ls1, same as Corvette, and I got 149k miles out of it with no issue from transmission or engine. I know lots of others who have similar stories. Now the c4...but that was a while back. What issues did you have?

My main issue is the DI motor. Will it and injectors last ? I dunno. I love the low tech stuff for lasting forever. Like a Nissan sr20de, or a gmc 5.3 or 5.7 lsx based, or something like that. It just lasts forever. The cx5? It's a wait and see. So far the skyactiv transmissions seem promising, and I've got nearly 84k miles on mine. No issues or bobbles yet.

I plan to keep mine until its paid off and then a few years. That's about 150k miles to pay it off , and then some afterwards. I financed for 78mo because the interest rate was killer and I bought GAP and people like to hit my cars.

No.s***. this is exactly why I sold my jeep and got into a cx5.

The thing that I don't understand about Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge/FIAT is that they have consistently been at or near the bottom of every reliability report for 3 decades. It nothing seems to be going on to change this. They are currently short on cash. They were looking for a Chinese buyer but that didn't work out. Due to their lack of funds R&D is non-existent. That's why all of their models are old as dirt. I guess it's time for them to add even more power as it seems adding power is a lot cheaper that coming up with new platforms. I don't know where do they go from here.

Huh? They have 2 newer cuvs than mazda, and the jeep grand Cherokee just got major refreshing in 2014. Their interiors are awesome. Their only issue is typical fiat: quality after 3 years. They do have 5 100 warranty standard, and lifetime bumper to bumper available.

I was talking about FIAT as a whole. The Grand Cherokee is 8 years old. I think that you are referring to the Cherokee which was redone in 2014. There are plans for a front end update in 2019. It will be 6 years old by then. They do have an all new Wrangler and upcoming Ram.
