Thoughts on 16 vs 17

With mostly all-black interior in CX-5, this's expected even in leather trim. When the temperature reached 86F yesterday afternoon, I couldn't stay inside of our all-black interior CX-5 long when it parked under the shade. It's getting too warm in there even with doors opened!

Mazda really should consider making light-color interior available for each exterior color like everybody else, such as gray interior for Sonic Silver. And light-color interior is not just for seats, and door panels; but should include dash、carpet、and seat-belt colors!

Almost all of my vehicles have had all black interior. You need some quality ceramic tint.

Good way to collect bird poop.

Not all the time

Yes, as you ought to know, being an Aussie, if the bird poop doesnt get your car, fair chance that a branch will unexpectedly fall off that gumtree you parked under, and smash onto your car.

Parking under trees is not a good idea. Just get a good tint on the windows and use a sunshade on the inside if the screen when parked in the sun.

Or a deadly venomous snek drop down and that's that, you'll wish you'd gotten something with a V8 or a turbo or something, lol!

I use covercraft sun blockers in USA. Sure its 50 bucks or more but its custom made for CX-5. It beats the Texas sun so is pretty much guaranteed all over USA. Not sure about Australia. Not sure about higher spec GT - it needs some special design to not impede the sensors.

CX-9 is way more beautiful. Its beautiful in close up and beautiful when you step back and take the whole car in. Everything gels well.
On Google search there are two pics of white CX-5. 17 and 16.5 from 10'O clock angle. That really describes what I feel. In many colors and angles the new looks good but once I see that angle its just very odd looking. As if there were two design teams who never communicated and designed front and back separate.
I love mazdas design language since 13 but have to say overall look in flesh for 2017 is max 4/10 vs 16 which is solid 7 or 8. I will post the two pics tomorrow.

Almost my exact thoughts. Dude finally took the blinders off. Money, lol...

But in my defense its not easy to spot. In some color and angles the 17 looks good. But once you see that angle - oh my god my eyes ... my eyes.
What is even more baffling is you can spot this hideousness in white - which traditionally has been the most neutral and appealing color for CX-5 imo. If all 80% of the cars were not white / silver / grey I would have gone for that.

I still stand by my original comment - the grille in itself is handsome even compared to 16.5 - just not on this vehicle.

Cool, I saw this instantly. The dealer I got my 16.5 from also had 29 17s in stock, so I spent a few hours looking over and getting to know the 17 anyways. Even the salesman thought they messed up and called it "a baby CX-9", and I agree, however, the 9 looks better as you stated. They aren't selling well here either as they still have the majority of those 29 in stock at close to $2k cheaper than most are posting they're paying here. Folks will get those discounts IMO real sooner than later, even at the end of this month with Memorial Day and such. Obviously folks are going to like the "latest and greatest", but with this new design out, I don't foresee myself opting for an 18 or 19 either. Time to go throw some more mods on the 16.5 today. Going to order that covercraft (most likely) shield today you recommend as the 90+ temps are here to stay this week. Think I'm still good with it on a GT?

The grill belongs on the next Lancer EVO.
The '17 lost all its "curve", and then got an "over the top grill".

Seen a few 17's in the wild now, and I still have to sit there looking at it to figure out if it's a CX-5.

Fully agree.

Saw a 2017 coming towards me one evening with it's lights on, looked scary. Looks great in pictures, but in real life...kind of like those dating sights where you think the woman looks hot, but once you see her in real life...well.. enough said.

Fully agree.

Man, y'all are 16-blind :) I'm new to the car and can easily spot CX-5s among the herds of CUVs... both the 17 and earlier models.
