Car & Driver always rates Mazdas high because they are the best "drivers" of the bunch. If you daily a sports car and are in the market for an SUV, then listening to Car & Driver is a wise decision. However, most people who come from an aging minivan or family hauler will think the suspension is too stiff and will place priority on other features that Mazda may fall short on. I split time between an '85 RX7 and a '13 CX9 (and my '75 REPU on really nice days). When I get into a low mile rental SUV from GM, Ford, or Hyundai I get motion sick from all the suspension travel. The nose dives within the first quarter inch of brake pedal travel. I can't wait to get back into my 4 year old SUV when I get home from a trip.
