Guess which oil my dealer would use when I change oil or top off oil there?
I actually bought a bottle of Mazda moly oil at dealer's parts department to top my oil level off when our CX-5 is new as the factory fill is the Mazda moly and I don't like the idea of mixing different oils. That's how I found out that "Preferred Choice" oil is what my Mazda dealer would use. I also checked several brand new CX-5's in the dealer's lot and all of them were at ~ ⅔ between "Low" and "Full" marks on the dipstick. BTW, the same on the coolant level, all of them were at about between "L" and "F" marks on the plastic coolant reservoir.
This actually makes me think Mazda is trying to save cost by keeping these fluid levels lower than the full mark as the Mazda moly oil and Mazda OEM coolant are pretty expensive!
Your coolant level in reservoir is not empty! The level is between "L" and "F" according to your picture. The "L" mark on the reservoir is below the big notch for the passing hose.
Yeah, you can ask your dealer to top both fluids off. But they either would say they're within specs, or do the top off with any fluids available on hand, most likely some bulk oil from a 55-gallon drum, and just tap water for your coolant!
