Real World MPG Testing - 2016 CX5 - GT with AWD

Did my first road trip with the CX-5 from the bay area to Reno. Hit some bad traffic twice and stopped for coffee. I was at 29.4MPG until I hit the incline part of the drive. You quickly see how much harder the engine has to work since it dropped off to 25MPG going the same speed. I ended up getting some of that back towards the end after the summit and ended with 27.2MPG for the trip. Pretty happy with it and wouldnt be surprised if I get over 30 on the way back since I have a huge downhill section.

MPG for the way back. Avg 32.1MPG, highest point 34.7, lowest 25.8, distance 229 miles, one notch above half tank left.

Avg for both trips is 29.65MPG. I'm pretty damn happy with it.

BTW adaptive cruise control is amazing. I always wondered if it was worth it until I got it. Managed to follow my friend who was doing 70, it slowed all the way down to 20MPG to go through the toll plazda at the Bay Bridge without any issue or getting too close, and accelerating back up to speed.

We frequently drive to and from Central Oregon from the Portland area (~4000' elevation change) and typically get in the 28s on the trip east and around 33 on the way back to near sea level. Works for us!

Road trip to Austin from Dallas last Monday on 2016 FWD CX-5. Highway speeds were mostly 70-78 mph. Average MPG was 28 including city driving in Austin. I think that is pretty good especially since I actually am having trouble getting good MPGs with the CX-5. As soon as you drive past 65 mph, your MPG takes a hit.

Towed a 2,000LB trailer about 40% of the time and remaining 60% was city/highway driving

26 MPG

Not bad for towing...

That's what I get around Austin more or less
