Howdy All,

Had seen these Vents or as I'd thought were speaker
grills in the back left and right corners of along the back hatch
wall on either side liftgate.

I was just wondering what these are for, venting for the Tail Lights or ??????????

I'd tried to see if there was anything in the Owners Manual, but I didn't see it,
might be there, if so I overlooked it.

Any thoughts our ideas? Thanks !!!

If you're referring to these two grills on top of the back side panels that are for rear 3 1/2" speakers. You can see or touch these speakers by opening the tail light access panels.

Howdy Ray,

These are on the bottom of the back face on each side, down close to Floor

Yes, those help keep air circulating between the cabin and the body so you don't end up with moisture becoming trapped, musty, moldy etc. A heat vent for the tail lights might also make some sense and prolong their life, or it could just be a coincidence of location.

Howdy All,

Thanks, I can see where that makes sense, so do you think air is constantly going out through those vents and
also conditioned Air like Cool and Warm air? I'd be curious where the air comes out and
if fumes can come back in through those?

Air does go through them... they also give air somewhere to go when you close the doors or tailgate. Under normal conditions air is flowing out of them (positive pressure), so any fumes are being pushed away from them.

EDIT: They also move the air out that is displaced by inflating airbags

Don't stop now craigo; I'm betting you can think up at least half a dozen more uses for them!(2thumbs)

Howdy Craigo,

Thanks for the additional info, still kind of interesting to have
those there, I don't remember having those in any other vehicles I've
owned, of course, most of them I was trying to keep air in and not having it
go through and out.

Thanks again for the info.

ohh ohh can I play?

They also go BZZZZ THHHPPPPBBBBTTT BZZZZZ THPPPPBBBT BZZZZ THHHHPPPPPBBBTTTT if you have a big sub in the back.

If you look, you'll find that all vehicles sold in the US, at least, have vents to the outside. Some companies just hide 'em better than others.
Here's the 'other side' of your CX 5's grille, down on the bottom corner. Note the rubber flaps over the hole, that kind of act like a sort of check valve.

Actually, all cars have them, usually hidden in plain sight.

Great photo, those are the air extractors. I figured they would be down there. All cars have them, usually in the rear - the positive pressure made by the fan, doors, airbags etc has to have a place to go or you'd get weird whistling sounds around the windows and door seals. Heck, the airbags going off might break your windows and eardrums.

Howdy CX-5-SO.

Thanks so much, it's neat to see the outer workings.

I'm guessing they have the one way valve that lets air out but it isn't able to be
pulled back inside.

Thanks again !!!!

Howdy CX5-SO,

Thanks again, Fort Worth is called Panther City,
so I've always loved anything with or associated with
a "Panther"

Not hijack, but Oooohhhhh! There's where the blind spot sensors are!

Back on Topic though, those vents work better than in my BMW. The doors close with a firm push and when you close the sunroof/vent at highway speed my ears pop.
