Tire rotation & balance together?

I rotate my tires every 10K or so. Should I balance all wheels when doing rotation or not?

What do you do?

I never rebalance unless there is vibration problem. Ed

Thanks for your input.

I strongly feel that once you feel the vibration it is already too late as the condition must have developed for longer period of time.

I typically rotate my tires myself, so no balance. But if I were taking the car to a shop for a rotation, I think I'd go ahead and pay the small extra cost to rebalance at the same time. It does make sense that over time with wear the tire will change and could benefit from a rebalance.

I too change out my tires at home, swapping my winters to summer. So while the unused set is lying in the garage, I bring them to the tire shop for a balance, which is a free service from the original purchase. Always freshly balanced ready to go for the next swap. We typically drive 15,000 kms per year, so twice a year is probably overkill, but at least we should get good wear of the the rubber.

..assuming your alignment doesn't go out.

What size wheels are you running your snow tires on?

At some shops I have worked at, the CSRs would state not to balance unless there is a vibration issue, but most customers want balancing done along with rotations because they paid a lifetime price. We have seen wheels out of balance by only 1/4- 1/2 oz with no customer pre complaints, so either way is ok IMO.

10k?
Mazda service schedule says 5k
Yes, mine also says 5K-mile schedule for tire rotation. The build-in "Maintenance Monitor" app also says 5K-mile tire rotation schedule.

My 2014 CX 5 touring manual states 7,500 or 5,000 miles depending one which schedule. I think 10K is a reasonable mileage for a very easy driver. Ed
