so is there any benefit of running ethanol to you?
This is in my wife's escape that is a FFV. I don't think the 6 would know what to do besides break.
It's been a while since I've had to do any equations like this but it looks like at today's prices; E85 $2.49, 87 $3.12; cost of e85 is about $.159/mile and cost of 87 is $.155/mile. Not a huge difference at a $.63/gal difference. It looks like $.71 is my break even point for price differential. Then of course there is the more frequent stopping at the pump. Wanted to see what the mpg is on this tank too to get more than a 1 tank mpg average.
Math teachers feel free to correct me.
Price of e85 (before fuel points, I would get the same discount on 87) - $2.49 * 17.5 of gallons the tank can hold = $43.575 so $43.58/tank
# of gallons the tank can hold - 17.5 * 15.6 avg mpg = 273 miles/tank
divide $43.58/273 = $.159/mile
on 87, avg mpg 20.1 * 17.5 = 352 miles/tank
let x equal the price difference between e85 & 87
so my equation is [($2.49+x) * 17.5] / 352 = (2.49 * 17.5)/273 -> [43.58 + 17.5x]/352=.159 -> 43.58 + 17.5x = 55.97 -> 17.5x = 12.39 -> x=.708 so $.71
This is with a 4.5 mpg difference, I have the mpg# written down at home and I feel like it's higher, but I also know the mpg # will normally be higher on e85. It won't be running in front of the valet stand at the hospital for this or future tanks.
* edit - as the price of e85 goes up, so does the break even point. i.e E85 @ $2.60/g has a break even point of $.76
