It finally arrived last Friday. I'm really impressed with the smooth motor, it pulls like a dream. It's a lease car via RRG in Manchester but I will be using SG Petch in Darlington for service and spares. The electric seat memory function is the best option I've ever had on car. The positions can be set with His and Her keys, so no messing around when I get in after Mrs. The 2 memory buttons on the seat can be independent from the key fobs giving a total of 4 recorded positions. I've read so much about the infotainment issues and wasn't really worried as I like to listen to the radio most of the time. I am a little disappointed at how long it takes to fully connect the mobile and so far have had to manually connect if the last phone was a different one even though it is already stored in the system. I haven't had time to really play around so I hope I can find a solution.
Witter towbar ordered (thanks for the recommendations) so I hope the weather holds this coming weekend as I will be towing the caravan for the bank holiday weekend. I'm still not sure about electrics, I've decided to go for the mazda harness but there is confusion over the correct one.

Can anyone shed light on the correct one, or difference? There are also 2 options for the 7 pin type with a similar price difference.

If the car had excessive diesel in the sump and all the garage did was drain a bit out, then the oil could have been diluted even further than if a full oil change had been done.

basically if the garage 'cheaped out' you can see why the oil light came on due to excessive dilution.

When my cx-5 dipstick reading rose to the OLD X I had a full oil change done. I have since had a type c dipstick and the sensor check and software upgrade done so I'm happy that my Cx-5 hasn't come to any undue harm. I am aware that quite a few not so savvy garages just drained some fluid off to get the reading back to F from X, which would result in further oil dilution.

As I mentioned earlier the oil level on the dipstick (latest type) when I had the warning was about half way between the high oil mark and the 'x'. The Mazda service manager told me the car needed a software upgrade, and they did it while I waited last Friday (actually took around 45 mins). I took the car away, obviously warning had gone, and the next day drove 180 miles, and the same on the return the following day. I've just checked the oil level out of curiosity, and I would say it's exactly the same as when I first checked it. I therefore don't believe they drained any oil out. I have subsequently spoken to the service department to ask what exactly was done, and they tell me it has had a routine ECU software update. I pressed him for the details or version and was told it was just to the latest standard. The car gets its 1st service in 3 weeks, and this update would have been done there in any case.

But now get this. The trip I did at the w/e was the same as I've done many times, visiting daughter, and my driving style is pretty much fixed. BUT, the car's MPG was significantly better than the 41 MPG, calculated full to full, I've been getting over the last several months, including several long trips. This trip, where conditions were normal, it was 47 MPG !! Is that just coincidence, or could the software update have caused it? If so, good news for all.

Yes, when YOU bought the car but unfortunately that deal wasn't available when many of us bought ours. Subsidised by Mazda UK apparently. Excellent deal but when we bought my wife a new Renault Captur in March we got 4 years servicing for 299 .....now, that's a "deal"(dance)

I bought a Galaxy Y phone which was supposed to be compatable according to the mazda compatability chart.
The dam thing would connect 9 out of ten times, but if it didn't trying to connect was very very difficult.

In the end I stopped using it and now use my daughters cast off, a HTC wildfire s, which has never failed to connect, it also used to download and play text messages, but for some reason now it will only down load and refuse to open or play though the speaker like it use to.

I've given up on it.

Let us know what you think as a towcar, the weight you tow and the average MPG.
I've had from 24mpg to 34mpg, usually it's around 26/28mpg, not good but not bad either, that's towing 1565kg. A little more than the 173bhp xtrail I had.

Since my service the consumption has gone up! Until yesterday I was going to ring and ask what they might had done, but then it come back to the usual 43mpg, it was down at one stage to 35mpg!!!
I've read of others having poor economy but mine was around 42/45mpg before service.

Also I've read that the fuel economy improves along with rising oil levels as the oil is thinner, diluted. Which isn't good for the engine long term.

Since the software update to address the rising-oil issue the number/frequency of DPF "fuel added flushes" are reduced, therefore better economy. Mine was quite significant, and the oil level has stabilised.

Hi Dadwithlonglegs, I fitted the 88.75 Mazda wiring harness 3 months ago and it is a quality kit made in Germany and contains full wiring harness, relays to switch off car rear fog lights and parking sensors when towing, quality 13 pin socket with cable. Power feed to caravan fridge and power feed for charging caravan battery are included. I suspect that the more expensive kit included an uprated power feed to cope with Al-Ko ATC ??

The time has come when I will be parting company with my Mazda after an enjoyable 18 months. Despite the odd glitch DPF regens and Dipstick issues aside, it hasn't put a foot wrong in nearly 10,000 miles, but I am downsizing and going Hybrid as my motoring needs have changed. I have a space saver spare wheel kit , an unused replacement 19" Toyo ( bought from Applauso) and a Boot Load liner for sale if anyone is interested, North West and East Midlands for practicality only, but PM me if you are interested. The numberplate CX5 5KY X is also up for grabs.

Anyone know if using a non-Mazda dealer paint shop would invalidate any warranty? Considering some work to my car & wasn't sure what the script is.

As long as they use Mazda paint etc is the warranty then protected?

Car has now just over 6000 miles on the clock. If I don't bother rotating the tyres is the Tyre Pressure Sensor going to start going off? Can't see me rotating the tyres unless its free as part of a service.

Dealers usually charge extra for rotating the tyres and they dont seem to be that bothered about it as it only evens tyre wear out so that you end up buying a full set instead of just fronts.

Not as such, but you will get a warning/advice note on screen.

If you go through the settings on the steering wheel you can change the frequency or even disable this facility. Can't remember the routine but easy to do if you follow your nose.

I normally don't bother as means all four tyres at once, however this time I did swap them but after 13k miles.

Done 17K and I replaced the front tyres with the ones on the rear. put falkens on the rear. TPMS goes off. It never went off when I had 4 geolanders on. Rears were put on front and left at rear tyre pressure which should be a bit lower for the front. Reset the tpms. it went off again. reset the sensor in the morning with tyres from absolute cold and after a further pressure adjustment, now seems ok. Did 250 mile long run sensor stayed of.f. Noticed a chip on one of the alloys. Not had any road related damage on the alloys for 18 mionths. Pretty sure it was the Blackcircle 'premier' dealer I went to , but how can I prove it? Anyway won't be going back to them for more tyres!(notcool)

Having initially tried the Ampera and then Mitsubishi Outlander Phev, we are currently torn between a BMWi3 and an Audi A3 Etron, I have driven both and they both have +/- points vs each other, is the Lexus NX a plug in or a straight hybrid? I was quite simply blown away by the huge wave of torque available in the electric modes, which makes them genuinely real world quick cars with outstanding economy potential, at least as far as fuel costs anyway. Depreciation will be a killer though as the used market is not yet established for 'New tech', but as I usually keep and depreciate over 10 years it probably won't matter to me much.

It might do if your circumstances change again - after all you only had the CX-5 for 18 months.

So many scare stories about replacement battery packs being hugely expensive after a few years are sure to keep the second hand market for new tech vehicles down. I vaguely remember the Top Gear article on the Nissan Leaf (and I'm not agreeing with it or validating it) but the replacement of the batteries was a considerable amount of money, something like 15-17k.

EDIT: It's an old article, but this hints at a total of 19k although does qualify it by saying it is unlikely that all modules would need replacing. But surely a batch of batteries on the same discharge/charge cycle would age at a similar rate?

I think possibly old news, as both BMW & Audi are warranting the Battery for 8 Years, and Nissan I think was 5 years, with a 5k replacement cost, Nissan are setting up for manufacturing the batteries I believe in the UK; so I would anticipate the cost per cell will drop substantially in the future and I would rather think that you would not really replace the entire pack in one go. ( although dealerships will probably try and gull you into that being required I think.)

I am fortunate that I am in a position to get almost all my outlay back on the Mazda as I was able to purchase it VAT Exempt. It's still a great car, just the wrong one for us now.

The worst thing will be that to get the most from the Hybrid I will have to buy an iPhone and replace my trusty 16 year old Nokia ( the original battery on that is still going strong mind!!)

The iPhone - great device but poor quality phone with appalling battery degradation. I hope your car battery pack fares better than my iPhone battery!
