How many Brits? Fancy a cuppa?

My oil level was approx. 5mm above full the day I took delivery new. I now drive to my local Tesco ,about 6 miles, to warm up oil and park on the level and check oil after shopping to get an accurate reading.

Called the dealer I purchased the car from to get a price for first service. Without any negotiation I was quoted 158.

Based on your experiences I decided not to bother shopping around as this seemed a reasonable price!

Next question - for any of you that have replaced tyres - what tyres did you plump for? Any recommendations of tyres or any to avoid?

Currently i have the Yokohama Geolanders that were supplied but these don't seem to be widely available.

I am going to surprise a lot of people by recommending some cheap tyres! I changed my tyres at 27k and chose Maxtrek at 104 each they have the same rating as Pirelli at 167 each, I have since done 2k and can tell you they are better than the original Toyo they are a bit quieter brake well in the wet and the icing on the cake better MPG the Toyo's gave me 45.1 the Maxtrek 46.6

Colin; where did you get your tyres as that seems a good deal? Was it one of the national chains, or a local?

Alex

Ordered them through Asda Tyres and chose a local fitter from the list, by the way I said to the fitter they had the same ratings as Pirelli he said they had shot themselves in the foot as they had pushed for the ratings thing and it turned out that a few cheap tyres have the same ratings as theirs.!

I went for the Toyo tyres, same as the originals. They were 135 each incl vat, balancing and fitting.

I have 2 of these to be fitted thursday :

Falken Ziex ZE-914 Ecorun 225/65 R17 V (102)

248 for 2 all in.

I wanted continental 5's , they have an A wet rating, but can't get them. Dunlop do a tyre they sell in the big tyre chains tyre but it's dearer and lower rated than the falkens so the dunlop's stay on the shelf.

What made you go for the Falken's?

When you say the same ratings are you talking about the official tyre rating system that gives a letter rating for efficiency, performance in wet & noise? Or some other reviews?

Hi,

My CX-5 2.2D is now 11 months old with 8000 miles. Yesterday I noticed a red oil warning message on the dash; I happened to be 200 metres from home so finished the trip and turned engine off immediately.

Later I checked the dipstick and oil level was not low, in fact about 10 mm above the 2nd mark and well below the 'x'. The warning message was not present when I re started the engine.

I've got a 300 mile trip planned for tomorrow and expect there's no chance of my Mazda dealer booking me in today. Anyone seen this, or got any suggestions?

Thanks.

Could be too much dilution of the oil due to regens, or more likely just a sensor playing up. If your oil looks ok on the dipstick then you should be ok for a long run.

I think I may have just set a UK record for shortest mileage before first service. Bought car in late April with 1100 miles on the clock (ex demonstrator) and have now done 3100 miles ... and one month before the car being 1 year old (so 11 months and 3100 miles) it requested a service via a message on the dash. It's having the service done today. Given I've done a total of 300,000 miles in two diesel BMW in recent years with average service interval of 21,000 miles, TBH I'm not really impressed. Car is 2.2 D AWD (so 175 PS).

I dont recall mine giving me a message on the dash when it was a year old and due the first service.

Thanks. In fact I have to give praise where due, in this case to my local Mazda dealer. With no prior warning I took the car in at 9 this morning, spoke to Service dept about the problem. He said they could look at it straight away; 15 mins later he told me it was just that the car needed some software upgrade, and 30 mins later I was on my way!! Very pleased.

I've read of at least two owners on the CT forum who got the low oil pressure light up with high oil level due to dilution of the oil.

I wouldn't have been happy with your level reported in a earlier post, mine was around 6mm to 8mm above full at one year and 7K miles.

Which is why I was less than happy with the oil service presenting me with a already high level to start with, around 6mm above full!
It is possible for a diesel engine to run on the sump oil if the level gets too high, its happened to other cars!

By the way my service was cheaper than I thought, 169.43

Not the cheapest but cheaper than my xtrail services, Mazda are no dearer than Nissan for service.
Whatcar were charged 500 for a Evogue first service.

If the car had excessive diesel in the sump and all the garage did was drain a bit out, then the oil could have been diluted even further than if a full oil change had been done.

basically if the garage 'cheaped out' you can see why the oil light came on due to excessive dilution.

When my cx-5 dipstick reading rose to the OLD X I had a full oil change done. I have since had a type c dipstick and the sensor check and software upgrade done so I'm happy that my Cx-5 hasn't come to any undue harm. I am aware that quite a few not so savvy garages just drained some fluid off to get the reading back to F from X, which would result in further oil dilution.
