Brake Light OUT!!!!!!

All the brake light in my 2008 CX-9 are out. Every other light: head lights, high beams, turn signals, flashers, reverse, license plate light work. They all work.
I checked the bulbs, highly unlikely that all went out at the same, but was desperate.
I checked the fuses, both in the glove box and engine, did not look blown.
I have done some research, could it be the brake light switch?
How do I take that thing off?
I see it under the brake lever, but it doesn't seem to come off like a regular switch. Also there is more going on there than I am comfortable dealing with.
Any advice?

Not sure about your model, but most cars switches are adjustable on a threaded bolt. There is a nut holding the length in place. Once the nut is loosened, the switch can be lengthened by turning it (disconnect the electrical connector first)

No. The switch isch52 is referring to is on top of the brake pedal under the dash. The purpose of the switch is to activate rear lights when the pedal is depressed.

I don't know what switch you're referring to on the master cylinder, as there is no switch on the m/c, only a low fluid sensor/float with an electrical connection that lights up an idiot light on your dash when brake fluid is below the minimum spec line.

I'm not sure how the modern cars are build these days, but on an old VW Bug, the switch it was in the master cylinder.

Yeah, brake systems have changed a lot since. We even have power boosted brake assist now, too (lol2)

From the service manual. The brake light switch is 2 in the diagram. Wiring harness connects at A. The manual calls for removing the pedal (just the four bolts on the firewall, a clevis pin and the wiring harness) but it looks like you might be able to do it with the pedal in place. The switch slips into the mounting hole with the body horizontally aligned, then rotates counterclockwise 45 to lock, so rotating back to horizontal should release it.

Very interesting. I learned something today. I never thought about what makes the brake light activate, good to know!!

YES!!!! Exactly that switch. Happened again. Never changed it out. But can't figure out how to change it. Break lights went out on the wife. Switch is good. I went under neath there and played around with that switch and started working again.
