2013 CX 9 Touring
Hey Gang,

I looked through and searched the posts for the aforementioned issue with the CX-9 and didn't see anything that directly addressed the issue. Here's what happens:

I have a 2013 Touring CX-9. It's paired with my Galaxy S-4. There was no issue with the initial bluetooth set up. However every few weeks the text to voice readout will stop working. It will download the text message but when you press the speaker button on the touch screen nothing reads out. Does anyone know what causes this and how to prevent it from happening?

The fix is to delete the pairing from the car and the phone and start over again with a new pairing. However, if this can be prevented it would be nice.

There is a related thread in the CX-5 forum but it doesn't definitively address the cause and prevention. It can be viewed here:

Thanks!

My problem is worse. Initially after pairing, everything worked great. Now it won't download messages at all. It just tells me that the message download failed. Nothing on my phone changed. I've tried deleting the pairing and re-doing it, deleted all paired phones and still can't get it to work anymore. Bummer.

To be honest though, I'm not that surprised anymore. The head unit in this vehicle is utter crap. Too bad, because other than that, I really love the car.

I've never been able to download SMS and was on another Mazda forum and found someone made it work by deleting their emojis. Sure enough I tried this and it downloaded instantly. Try clearing any emojis in the contact name or text. No need to delete and pair the device again.

I didn't have the same problem exactly, but I was having issues with the car downloading my full contact list. When I replaced the car battery though, and had the cable disconnected for awhile it reset itself and worked fine again. You might try that and see if it resets itself.

Hi Gtech. I'm have this same issue with my 2014 GT. What are emojis? Thanks!

I second that ! Head unit is horrible, car is great but the USB playing the first song again every time I shut the engine instead of where is last left off is beyond frustrating.

Agreed, worlds better than my last car but still quite annoying. My USB stick plays the same playlist in shuffle mode too:(

Hey was thinking today, anyone ever try taking it into the dealership and see if they could fix it? It should be under warranty.

unfortunately, I don't think there's a fix, if you do a Google search, you'll see that it's more of a hardware issue
that no firmware in the world can fix. Supposedly the reason the USB keeps playing from the beginning is because
the USB's electrical power is cut off every time you turn off the car losing it's ability to remember where it left off. so in reality it's rebooting everytime you start the car and playing from the beginning again, horrible design.

only way I see getting this to work is to have a USB media player connected with it's own power supply connected to the battery; it's just needs just very little power sort of like a clock, it will not drain your battery,
or a standalone small rechargeable battery pack that last thru the night until you start your car again.
