hello, my wife is currently on a roadtrip to visit her sister in texas and im in GA. her 02 protege5 2.0L is currently dieing while driving down the highway. she can push in the clutch and release and the engine will restart without problems. possibly related to bumps in road. i have recently replaced the timing belt and prepared the car for long distance travel and the car is in top notch shape. i suspect something might be loose but cannot confirm this. anyone else experience this issue or have any idea what might cause this? im a ford certified engine master but thats useless when the vehcile is in a different area code. suspect possible crank sensor, maf, ignition switch, speed sensor? thanks

Is she throwing any codes ?

Send her to an autoparts store to get them read.

That may tell her which connector to check and you can google her a picture of it.

I had a similar issue and it was the negative battery cable was not tight on the post and coincidently it was after a T-belt change at local shop.

Especially if no CEL's, this would be my primary culprit. And it's easy as Hell for her to check and fix on the road.
