The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

That's a great point about the windows to the service area. Makes the customers feel like their car isn't being taken behind closed doors and *****. They're not hiding anything that way. Some Mazdaspeed posters and parts on the shelf like Thomas said would be cool.

The lounge is a good idea with a stocked fridge of Fanta.

Cleanliness
Free Coffee or Water
Propaganda (Brand Brainwashing material) in the service waiting room w/ free wifi
Jess' idea of being able to see your car being worked on.
Clean, easy to find bathrooms.
Easy to find service and or parts counter that doesn't feel like you are going to the back of or some wierd section of the building like a misfit. I hate when they just have blank walls. I feel like I'm either lost, going to be lost, or unimportant because I'm not buying a car. I always jut find it odd at every dealership. It's the same going from service department to the waiting area.

clean bathrooms
comfy seats
wi-fi
drinks
posters\merchandising showing Mazda racing or motorsport support (specific to their brand)
friendly people who actually know their s*** (not a tech that thinks an RX-8 has a V6... or a stupid blond woman who can't tell the difference between a 3 and a speed3 and will actually do the alignment I tell her to)
good viewing area of the shop would be nice, which also means the shop should be tidy

Good suggestions! I second the blank walls thing. The only dealer that isn't QUITE like that is the Mercedes dealer in Bedford. You walk straight in past the cars on display, past a waiting area, plenty of stuff on the walls in the way of posters and actual parts hanging up as demos (accessory parts), and then you are at a counter with more posters and little trinkets for sale, and a big bay on your left where cars are being prepared to go out or get picked up (separated from you by glass and glass doors).

Some really good ideas, I'll have to agree to everything Nate/Pablo stated and what Jess said about windows to the service area. In addition, staff that do not treat the cars as if they are their own. Last week I stopped at the local Mazda dealer to see if they had and 2014 3's on the lot and while walking along the front there was CPO 2013 white MS3 sitting out front. There was a tech (I assume) standing behind it smoking and right before my eyes, he lifted a cup up, took a drink and then placed it on the roof using the spoiler as a stopper!? WTF

Yes, I hate that, someone is going to buy it and call it theirs. Treat it with respect. Same goes for the service department, I set my alarm off in a service bay because a couple techs and a manager were leaning on my car while talking to a customer.

Went to the grocery store at lunch and some kid in a slammed green EK Civic with stretched tires revved his 1.6 at me going the opposite direction. While I'm flattered that you saw my car and recognized it as a threat I wouldn't street race you, silly ricer. :D

On the dealership topic... I want a dealership with heated indoor cleaning/detailing areas (which most have), that will let me use it in the winter after I buy a car from them!

when we went to test drive the MS3 at Montrose, the sales guy just handed us the keys and said "you probably know more about the car than I do. have fun"

I wish that happened every time. The only time I have been flabergasted by the knowledge of the sales yet was at the BMW dealership outside of Westerville. He knew all the cars inside and out.

When I test drove a BRZ with my brother-in-law in Columbus the sales guy did that. It was great, particularly because most dealerships are all clingy about their BRZs.

At least he was honest and that gesture right there would sway me towards buying a car from him and being a repeat customer.
