The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Because it's ugly underpowered pos? :)
And I highly doubt I'll be able to convince her to beat on her car like that. Nothing good ever comes out of autox and it's her primary means of transportation.

Are you high? Haha

Has your car improved in any way from beating the crap out of it? Did your brake fluid become clearer? Did your tires gain tread?
I'm not talking about a "fun factor" here. I'm talking about someone's dd who doesn't know sh*t about cars and needs the AS tires for the winter. ;)

I wouldn't call auto-x "beating the crap out of it". It's really not that much harder than I drive in a fun run or something of the like. Unless of course you're talking about Kara's car which I'm sure isn't beat on at all. And just like I keep telling Tessa, you don't have to go WOT and as fast as humanly possible. It would still be fun at a slower pace.

But I think my driver mod vastly improved since I started auto-x'ing since I can apply that to my every day driving. Not saying I'm taking corners and on ramps at 90mph (okay, sometimes I do) but the car control is very beneficial. That's why I'm pushing Tessa to auto-x, so she can learn more car control in a safe environment. Basically it's a cheap driving school she can test the limits of herself and her car. :)

Now let's arm wrestle.

I mean, stuff is going to break. It's going to happen. Whether it's at an auto-x or driving home from work. Yes, auto-x puts more strain and wear on parts. But what's the point in having a fast car if you're just going to hard park it or do highway pulls?

I just have the expectation of doing an engine swap the following day after an auto-x. If I don't have to then I look forward to the next auto-x. haha. Of course, that sounds awfully blase of me since I've got a spare motor. But I always keep a spare $1k in the bank for when something breaks since it's inevitable. I take meds for anxiety and if I worried about breaking my car all the time I wouldn't have any fun.

I'll start talking to her about it over the winter. Maybe get a dedicated summer set of tires. We'll see.
And you will Never convince me that street driving is the same as autoX as far as the wear and tear on the car. If you drive on the street like you do on autoX then you either a. not driving hard enough off the streets or b. doing crap on the streets that goes against your "grandpa driving" philosophy and shouldn't expect your car to last.
I will even argue that road course (mod-o, beaverun) is safer on the car than autoX (not taking into consideration the speeds at which you can trash your car completely).

When did mazda2 become a fast car? There is nothing zoom zoom about a stock mazda2. That's why I'm extremely adamant about having the woman autox it. :)

I meant that in general for us on the forums who are into modding our cars. And "fast" is always a subjective term. ;)

I do drive like an average person, but for entrance and exit highway ramps. Those don't count. haha. And when the heck is the Christmas Tree going to be done so YOU can come out and auto-x?

Next year. :/ Don't think I'll be able to tune it before the weather turns into complete poo. Might need Jake's crazy tuning skillz with this one.

Also, mazda2 is slow. This statement is non-negotiable. srsly. :P

Mazda 2 is slow in a straight line or a tight twisty. Can be moderately quick if you keep the speed up through twisty roads. Even stock. Don't make me whip out the park video. I could go quick enough down steels corner and three wheel it at 80mph lol.

So many fun roads around there. I drive em every day to and from work, just because.
