The Slammed Life

Never seen those pressed in rings on any of my wheels. They don't fit over the studs?

They almost look like reducers of some kind. Like you said if they were on a car with tiny studs they might have been put into the wheels to make everything fit better when you tighten the lug nuts. Is it possible to tap them out from the back? Maybe there is a more normal sized conical seat behind them.

I thought about that. I'll have to give it a try. The guy I got them from had them on a 5x112 VW Jetta. Think he was using adapters.

Trying to at least find an image on google so I can do a little more research but no luck yet.

The only thing I can think of at the moment is that VW might use a lug bolt that is more narrow than the studs that mazda uses. This would probably require some kind of seat/ring to be added into the wheel so the tapered lug bolt fits in correctly when things get tightened down. The only thing is that they look like they have been in there for some time.

If you want to get them out try putting a bolt that is larger than the hole on top and giving it a few love taps with a short handled 5 pound mallet. From the back side obviously. They should pop out pretty easy.

Alright I'll have to try that. Thanks for the help.

Failing that, thoughts on if they could be bored out with a drill press and still used safely?

I wouldn't. There should be a 45 degree taper to the seat that the lug nut sits in. Mess that up and you'll change the way the wheel is held onto the studs. If they pull in too tight or at an angle you could shear a stud off which would be bad.

They look like they were added to the wheels at some point. I am kind of thinking that they look like these. Just having a hard time figuring out what they are called.

Ok. I might have to contact some wheel shops around me on monday. One has a bend that needs repaired anyways.

Just googled "lug hole inserts" and found a couple that look similar.

Ok the hole size isn't the problem.

Turns out the wheels are 5x112.

Thoughts on opening up the holes a little bit with a 5/8 bit and then using wobble lug nuts? Or should I just sell them?
